Updated enjoy. VS Rochdale travel to take on table toppers Charlton Athletic for yet another mid-week game down at the Valley. Charlton come off the back of a 1-1 draw at the weekend against Tranmere (5th 1-1 draw in a row between the sides) whilst Rochdale beat Bournemouth 1-0 at home courtesy of a 90 minute penalty by skipper Gary Jones. When the two sides met earlier in the season Charlton won a closely contested game 3-2. Charlton led the game 2-0 at the break with goals from Hollands and Wiggins. This 2-0 lead did not last long and as the hour struck Rochdale made the game level with goals from Grimes and Ball. This had Charlton on the ropes, they needed to keep their heads up and keep playing theirs and not Rochdale's game, with 10 minutes to go Charlton got their reward for not caving in when Danny Hollands rose to score a Header from a freekick and Charlton's winner. While Charlton are enjoying a very Successful season and look destined for promotion after amassing 68 points from 30 games, the complete opposite can be said for Rochdale who seem to have second season syndrome and are battling it out with the likes of Chesterfield, Wycombe, Walsall and S***thorpe to try and stay in this division. This being the case they have only gained 27 points from their 30 games Charlton's Home Record - W9 D5 L0 GF30 GA10 PTS 32 Rochdale's Away Record - W2 D3 L10 GF10 GA28 PTS 9 Top 3 Goalscorers - Charlton - Rochdale 14 Wright-Phillips - 10 Grimes 12 Jackson - 6 Jones 7 Kermogant - 4 Akpa Akpro Previous Meetings Rochdale 2-3 Charlton 17/09/2011 Charlton 3-1 Rochdale 25/04/2011 Rochdale 2-0 Charlton 29/03/2011 Could only find these 3! My team to play against Rochdale - Hamer Solly Morrison Taylor Wiggins Green Hollands Stephens Evina Wright-Phillips Kermogant Subs Sullivan Cort Pritchard Haynes Wagstaff A must win game for me, we can't afford anymore slip ups at home like against Bury. Our lead at the top has been cut to 6 points and we still have to difficult away days left! However the major gap is between us and 3rd. A win tomorrow night would see us 14 points clear of third place with a game in hand! Promotion is within our grasp now and i can't help but love every minute of it.
Excellent match thread mate. Hope its not all in vain. See my separete thread a minute or two ago about that issue. PS. Agree with your team selection.
Yeah I saw you thread and I'm hoping it doesn't get postponed! The only thing I've missed is a prediction and I'm going to go with 2-0 with Green and Bwp(hopefully) scoring.
Yeah I fancy 2-0 tomorrow and I think BWP will score if he plays. With Stephens back he might get some good service.
Charlton v Rochdale Referee: FRED GRAHAM Colin Lymer John Magill Fourth Official: Stephen Daly http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/Appointments/0,,10794~2593185,00.html Fred’s league career has been rather chequered. He was promoted to the list in 2004, but only lasted one season before being demoted back to the Conference and reserve team matches. However, he must have done well in 2005/06 because he was immediately promoted back again. This season he has refereed 21 games, showing 56 yellow cards and four red. He was most recently at last week’s League Two fixture between AF Wimbledon and Macclesfield, while earlier in the season he refereed Charlton’s Carling Cup tie at home to Preston. http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/footba...id=15900&title=refwatch_preview:_charlton_(a)
Good thread, Belvegere. Good team too. I'd like to see Hayes feature though because of they way he used to link up with Stephens.
A lot of people (or is it just you Billy?) keep talking about Hayes - but he hasnt played a game since the Dinosaurs were rampant ! - whats the story ?
He just offers something different. We tend to play to feet more when he is in the side. I do like him. Problem is his football brain is better than his ability so he gets as much wrong as he gets right. don't want him to get disillusioned. He's very useful in the squad and on the evidence of Tuesday is miles better than Clarke.
I agree with the team selection, but I hope Powell brings on Haynes for BWP with 20mins+ to go if it isn't working. A narrow 2-1 victory, I think. P.S. Some more shameless self-promotion, but I did a preview for the match on my blog if anyone is interested http://thematchreport.tumblr.com/ It's quite long and talks about Rochdale for a bit, just so you know.
No I meant Hayes. I wasn't drawing a comparison based on Tuesday when, I agree Haynes blew Clarke away. I think think Hayes and Haynes both offer more than Clarke.
Just looked outside and checked the weather forecast. Can't believe this game will be on. Feet up in front of the rugby methinks. Hope you haven't set off from Rochdale!
Great match thread. For the twitter fans here- anyone else think suli's tweets suggest he might have started today? He was very eager for it to be on.
Sounds like a good option - just been into Dartford Market and it's absolutely bitter. I know we don't feature Hockey much on this board, but I saw a clip on the box last night and it looked really good. If you've got five minutes, take a look at this, particularly Danson's goal at 2.42 - best one I've ever seen. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/hockey/16865335
