I am with you Alex, real ale tastes of dirty old puddle water.
I love Stella, but always used to get in trouble when i drank it,so stick to the cider nowadays. Drinking apples does count towards your 5 a day doesnt it?

    Don't see why not? Haha.

Always been ok with Stella but give me Kronenburg and I get ratty but not violent and the most awful headache the next day.

I steer well clear of that crap these days.

If you like lager and cider you should try snakebite (half and half of each). That will definitely get you into trouble!

Snakebites are lethal, went on the lash down in Devon on them when i was a lad,a bottle of Pils, and half a scrumpy.
Kept up with my mates who were drinking bitter or lager for 4 pints, then disappeared, and was found asleep in a ditch the following morning covered in mud and puke.
    Very seldom touch them now.

You know youv'e had a good night when you end up in a ditch!

Honestly though, there is an ale for everyone out there, they vary massively and I've found a few lager people like the lighter summer ales, but hey each to their own. On the lagers, I'm not too bad with Kronenbourg, never Stella though, it taste like iron filings! Best lager on tap for me is Heineken, cos its all imported now, nice taste.

Probably shouldn't admit this but when I was about 20 after gutting down about 6 cans of Lager and half a bottle of Vodka I streaked naked across the train tracks in Reading god knows why!

When I got to the other side the police were waiting for me and then led me out the front of the station naked on a busy Friday night and wouldn't let me have my clothes! Sobered me up! Ugh!

    £80 fine also.

I don't tend to drink before a game. As I am one of those who gets narked by those who disappear half way through the match, it's not a good idea. After the match is a different matter but it depends whether I have my son with me as he's not old enough to sup yet. The Humble Plum is indeed a good pub for proper beer although it has changed hands recently. Hopefully the new guy will keep the standards up.
With respect to the Bitter/lager debate, I can enjoy both but I only tend to drink lager on a very hot day or when the bitter is no good and I absolutely echo that Kronenbourg 1664 is a real headache catalyst. Favourite brewer is Wadworths. To those who have not yet got into real beer, you need to give it a chance and don't bother with anything like John Smiths. Those who do like real ale, might like to know that the Watercress line has a RAT- a real ale train. You can get details from their website. Local ales, a good night night out, which brings a new meaning to the expression, "steaming"!

I have always enjoyed a Leffe Blonde and I don't mind that Italian Peroni but give me a bottle of Gigondas or Ribera Del Duero any time.

(4 of us) Get in car, park up about 20 before kick-off, walk to ground in time for KO, watch game on the edge of my seat, half-time down in the concourse with snacks, back up the steps to watch in despair/joy, full-time - quick clap of the players and out we go - back to the car.

....stop at pub on way home to watch some of the late game maybe, home to relax (on the forums and other reaction sites), takeaway in front of the tele which includes MOTD and TFLS.

And Nelson. Wasn't he preserved in brandy, but the sailors all drained it off to drink. Urban myth, but an interesting one.
