For those who did and didnt watch Raheem Sterling last night in the Next Gen Wowwwwww! This kid is gonna be a massive ,massive star Best performance Ive seen by an individual Liverpool player in a game for the last 10 years last night.10/10.And we lost.Acccurate score on the balance of play was about 0-5 and we lost 1-0.He absolutely ripped the Spurs defence to f**kin shreads.I have never seen anythin like it, stunning pace, and is close control of the football running at pace is Messiesque For me Raheem was basically saying Im ready!! If I was Kenny, if he isnt already training with the 1st team , I would change that this week.Immediately!!And he would defo start the game v Brighton, and based on how he did at Brighton, I supect he would start more.Id also be very, very tempted to have him on the bench v Spurs, reagrdless of whose fit or not If he got a chance soon, I could see him going to Euro 2012, .... no really!!
I think it's still a bit early to be bringing him into the first team. He has only gone 17 and it would be better imo to let him develop until the start of next season. Looking at him last night he look's as if he is getting a bit bigger and stronger which is good.
I agree somewhat.... first i agree he should be with the first team to develop as he'll learn nothing with the reserves form where he is. I can't say its the best i've seen at all cos it was a group of u19 players and the reality is first team football is a much higher level with much bigger challenges and faster better players all round. As a kid though... yes the best kid i've seen total... gerrard nor owen looked like that. Owen was his own type of player with pace but the skills sterling has are better. No way would he got to 2012... not a hope. I'd want to have him for a league match somehwere along the line though... a home game against someone who's not a bunch of cloggers... stick on the bench and see how he reacts.
For me this may have been one of LFCs problems over the last few years in producing young players. The last attacking player to come through the ranks and make the grade if Im right was Gerrard/Owen. We have this " oh youve gotta be careful approach ,and not rush them thrugh since then, AND NO ONES COME THROUGH".Nemeth and Pacheco wernt as good as Sterling, but I think you have got to play the youngster at " HIS PEAK",when hes playing well, when confidence his high, if this had happened with Pacheco/Nemeth, things could of been a lot different Sterling cant play better than what he did last night its impossible. We must make sure this over cautious approach of not blooding them isnt hindering them, Im certain it is, the amount of attacking players come throuugh the ranks in recent years ( ZERO )suggests it is.
I sort of agree that we have been cautious but the lad is still growing and if he get's played too much too young then he will have no career at all. Nemeth and Pacheco were cleary not good enough and a lot of Liverpool fan's wen't way over the top about them when the had'nt even played a game for the first team, I could'nt even tell you where Nemeth is now and Pacheco's career is going down hill fast, Sterling does look like he has a lot more to him than any youth we have had in year's but to be talking about putting him into the first team when he has only turned 17 and never played in the first team except pre season is just a bit early for me, I would like to see him do a full pre season with the first team in the summer and maybe look at getting him into the first team proper next season.
The pace all around the pitch was startling last night. The first 10 minutes were Spur's. After that, we twatted them and Sterling in particular stood out for all the right reasons. He is bulking up nicely as someone else mentioned.
I certainly think LFCs negative approach ,and reluctance to give youth a chance, has hindered the player and his career Looking at Nemeth, if we had give him a chance, would his career been in a better place or worse place than it is now.Almost certainly better Liverpool used Voronin a lot of times in that period, would Nemeths Liverpool performances been worse or better than Voronins, Im almost certain Nemeth would have been better,Voronin was absolutely terrible Liverpool IMO have with there approach on NOT blooding young players, has meant no one has come through, which has harmed Liverpool, and DEFINITELY harmed the young players careers Sterling MUST start v Brighton. The policy of NOT blooding young talent has proved to be a massive flop And for several games this season we have had 3 defenders on the bench( 4 once or twice), when have we made 3 defensive substitutions. That 3rd defender is a shirt filler, its a waste,if we need 3 defenders on the bench v Spurs and United due to players being unavailable, I would have him on the bench for United and Spurs too
I think Kenny will have a different approach to blooding youngster's than rafa did, I don't think rafa trusted any of them but Kenny will have no fear of putting them in if he think's they are ready he stuck Kelly in at Old Trafford in his first game in charge last season in the f.a cup and has also thrown Flanno and Robinson in a few time's. I would imagine Sterling is not far off getting into the first team and I think he will be in by next season at the latest.
honeslty... pacheco had it in him to make it but didn't and is still not working hard on the pitch. he had kuyt as an example but chose to stroll about.. he got chances nemeth. he'd not got the pace, a decent striekr but not at this high level as the pace was lacking. Sterling should be brought in like flanagan and robinson to the first team, and see what he does. needs to work hard and impress against better tougher senior players. I'd give him a go like that, sitting the the ressies won't develop him one iota more. the level is beneath his talent.
Its not just his pace an ball control though.....he has eyes for the defense opening pass and can even play a long accurate crossfield opener when needed.....he is alround an excellent player. i think he should be on the bench against brighton, but not at the expense of someone like Shelvey. Should be at the expense of a regular such as Maxi/Kuyt/Downing. So we do not upset our other young players.
i dont think we have seen the last of Dani...... he has had a terrible couple of years, but i think he will be back next season and loaned out for the season to a championship side.......I think he will have an awesome year next year....if he doesnt, his career is truly in the gutter
for me he was playing against kids in a much slower pace so while he was head and shoulders above them I don't think he's going to just turn up and be better than everyone we have in the seniors. i say get him training with our best and take it form there... the point on the brighton game is well made... thats one i'd target for him for sure... on the bench though... Pacheco has no work ethic, like le tallec..... Had pacehco shown an ounce of work ethic like pongolle he'd be now playing in spain. I watched him for spain u19s and he did well on the left, in the u20 world cup he was poor and got dropped, same players, others just passing him by. now he can't even get a sniff out in spain and it's all down to how bloddy much you want it, i can't see him doing it.
Your right with Sterling excellent ALLROUND player, can spot a pass and make it,reads the game very well, different but BETTER prospect than Gerrard at the same age, but that doesnt mean he will make it Pacheco would be amazed if he came back to Liverpool, seems to have lost his hunger, think Norwich move would be good for him, he seemed to really love playing for them
I'd agree that sterling is more stand out than gerrard was at the same age... gerrard was very good but he shot up 4-5 inches in that period and owen was the stand out. for the record "On 24 August 2011, Atlético Madrid announced on their official website that Pacheco had joined the club on loan from English club Liverpool for the 2011–12 La Liga season, and would be loaned once again to Rayo Vallecano. It was also confirmed that Atlético had an option to buy Pacheco at the end of the season2 wiki (yeah hwo relaible?) so if the guy does anything a tthier little feeder club he gets bought if not he comes back but i can't see him having much on his contract at that point.
You have to be careful with players his age. Players who play at the top level at his age often become injury prone when they should still be peaking. Especially the quick ones. Take Michael Owen for example. Maybe a loan could work well for a few months. Ease him into things.
Does anyone know whether Brighton actually attempt to play football? If so, may be worth a place on the bench. If they're rougharses, no.
They play nice football, Gus Poyet is the manager and when we played them in the carling cup they played some nice stuff, they even had Vicente that used to play for Valencia playing for them.
I think you have to take a chance that a player might be ready and give him an opportunity. The Brighton game from the ench would be good.
