Doesn't sound like owt to do with cuts to me, you must have been hired on a short term contract, if you have any basic qualifications you could look for a apprenticeship in an area that interests you and try to build a career path, if you have any maths ability try accountancy, you can progress through an apprenticeship rather than Uni.

  4. I have GCSE's, AS levels and NVQ level 3 mate, i think i can look to the future in an optimistic way <ok>

The reason the cuts have effected me is because they are no longer signing people on permenant contracts, unless it's the bigger jobs. There's people where i work, with 30+ years experience that are only being offered bank staff jobs, which means, you can work your full time hours and get payed good wages, but you are not on a binding contract, and if they don't need you or can't afford to pay your wages, they can get rid of you any time they want.

I wasn't on a contract as such, i just signed an agreement which stated i would work for them, but the contract wasn't permenant.

Tash, don't mean to be condescending here, you're only a couple of years younger than me, but, if you ever want anything more to happen with this girl (or any other for that matter) don't say stuff like that in their presence...It's all about confidence, self-deprication works wonders when it's humorous and used occasionally but the most important thing for any girl is confidence...You could look as battered as GRB's palms after a re-read of the NSFW thread, but as long as she thinks you have a bit of self confidence you'll be bang in there!

Also wish I was as confident about my future as you are...The job market is literally the scariest thing i've ever seen at the minute! English degree = **** all help!

Good luck in finding a new job! I'm surprised you haven't made an article where everyone says what jobs are available! Like a job centre plus article!

Sorry to hear that mate. Given u some postive rep to make u feel better. I ain't had a job since I left Uni, mainly because of the Recession and the Torries now cutting everything.

    Sorry to hear it Tash.

However, a bit of advice. I don't know what you were earning, but I work as a casual lifeguard in Cramlington, and around the NE they are always taking on new lifeguards, casual to start with, but I did 90 hours last month(mainly because the pool is now closed for 5 more weeks for refurb) so I needed the money as I don't have any shifts, but lifeguarding is always needed throughout the summer, get yourself to a centre. You will need to do a lifeguarding course, costs about £200 but you could do it in a week. It's £8.15 an hour, which suits me fine as I am only at Uni, the extra cash always helps. Just trying to help. You get loads of hours if you prove to be available, plus it is flexible, like I work from 8-1 on Saturday's before home games for example, or work one day a weekend if we are away. The centres are open till 11 so there are always shifts. And throughout the summer, they get double staff in as it is that busy. Not to mention there are some decent MILFs that come into the pool <laugh>

Is that when you got the hospital gig? When you visited them when they were recuperating after the rape? Joking

You're 18 and Summer's fast approaching, why not do a summer working abroad? Get out the house, see a bit of the world, then go back to your career when you get back. I did it at your age, obviously a long time ago but had an absolute blast for a summer, got all the hormones etc out of my system and was able to crack on with life without distractions.

Whatever you do, don't go to Uni!
That sounds weird, but honestly most of us who have are ****ed for getting jobs now - yet anyone who went into work or did an apprenticeship gains experience & that's what employers want atm rather than a piece of paper saying you studied for a few years, especially as loads of people now have them.
I'm having to do some voluntary work in the summer, hopefully working at Latitude and Leeds Fests as a sound engineer as well as a few other places I've applied for.
Competition is huge even for this voluntary work!
Luckily I have some well off parents who will support my rent and that til I get a proper job, but my sister finished uni last year and is still without one herself (she went the long route round and so even has about 5 years experience in her industry, nevermind her decent uni degree!).

Blacker-than-Knight probably talks the most sense here <ok>.
