Is the loan window open? If so, then why don't we try and get someone in on loan

It was never £3.5M. No official figure was ever given, and it was reported that Leicester bid £3M. The fact they were rejected by Sharp would stop most other clubs bidding. If he wasn't prepared to leave Donny to go to Leicester, where he could have carried on living where he does and in the way he was but earning PL wages then he's not likely to leave Donny to go to most other Championship clubs either. It was obvious he wanted either a PL club (none of which wanted him) or a top end of the table side so nobody else wasted their time.

You could also be right but I very much doubt it.

Thanks for continuing to contribute to a sensible, mature debate.

To be fair the last line of that probably did come across a little arrogantly, but what I meant to say was simply that I very much doubt that a release clause would randomly change mid-contract. I've never heard of it happen before and I doubt anyone on here has either.

Ok no, but I didn't mean it in such an official, accurate manner. Just that it was around that figure, and that I doubted very much that if the release clause was less than £2m that various other clubs would've gone in for him, ie Fulham (who were supposed to be willing to bid £3.5m) and the rumoured West Ham.

    Exactly.

It's more worrying that we totally dominate and don't score. With the number of chances we had last night even Manucho could have scored. I'm not rubbishing Fryatt, but somehow we need to start scoring. the 0 - 0's and 1 - 0 losses are starting to rack up against us, and yet we still read in the papers that we "dominated" the game.

I don't claim to have the answer, but I'm not on the same wages as the guy who should know one.

At least an overt bid for a striker, or someone in the loan window might signal an attempt to cure the problem, and have the benefit of appeasing the crowd (me).

West Ham had moved on to Maynard and Vaz Te, both for less than £2M, and Fulham went for Pogrebnyak who's less of a gamble.

We know Leicester offered enough to be accepted, and that was supposed to be £3M, but even if the clause said £1M all Donny had to do when they received the Leiceseter bid is accept it, they wouldn't have to tell them they were paying more than they needed to. The fact they were so secretive about the clause even though someone had already matched/beaten it would suggest it was very low compared to the rumoured bids.

Can you tell me when it was that you read through Billy Sharpes contract because you seem to know an awful lot about it .

<doh> I despair with some people, I really do. Granted I'm not exactly an angel on these boards but comments like that are just ridiculous.
It's like when we get a debate going about a player and then some arsehole can't resist the urge to say something along the lines of 'Can you tell me when it was that you moved in with him?' or 'Oh, are you his stalker then?'

I didn't claim to have read through anybody's contract, I've just never heard of a minimum fee release clause changing mid-season.
And I also remember about a month ago, when this whole release clause plummet story came out, that the likes of OLM were confused as to how it could change.
If it'd come from him then you would just accepted it as a valid point and moved on..

Sharp definitley went for about 1.85mil. To be honest that is a good deal. We really should have bid for him.

Can we bring in a PL striker in the emergency loan window or is it just for Clubs outside the top flight?

Yes, they did. I read his contract terms and saw the clauses, I was actually living with him at the time he signed the contract. Didn't I tell you?

Honestly didn't think I could disapprove of someone more than doveston, but here you are.

For ****s sake, here is a summary of what I've said.

It's rumoured to be £1.85m, but I very much doubted it because his minimum fee release clause was previously in the region of £3.5m, and I have never heard of something like that happening before.
I'm quite happy to be proved wrong, and I may well be, but just because a newspaper or two say £1.85m it doesn't make it true.
I never claimed that £3.5m was a fact, it was just what I thought was more likely.
So no, I haven't made my mind up, because my original post (now some hours ago, yes, you've managed to drag this patheticness out for that long) was an offhand comment and to be honest, whether they got him for free, £1.85m, £3.5m, £85m.. I really don't give a ****.

    There it is.
You said 3.5m is WHAT Southampton paid.

I said you could be right but I very much doubt it , and then for some reason the toys came flying out of the pram.

People need to learn to appreciate that whatever is posted is only their opinion without having to put IMO every 3 seconds. I realise now looking back at that comment that it did seem as though I was stating it as a fact but it wasn't intentional.

Maybe you actually are worse than doveston, or maybe I just misinterpreted your comments and we've got off on the wrong foot.
Time will tell, but you're on probation <laugh>
