True, but as with the whole season, the draws and losses were completely avoidable. Settling for what you've got when you have potential for so much better is the kind of mentality that TWF accuses local people of having. In football terms maybe he's right.

He probably is, and I'm not suggesting for a moment that the last couple of results have been good enough. I'm just trying to reserve judgement until after the Portsmouth and Bristol games.

Maybe we should be winning all three but two wins and a draw against Doncaster, Portsmouth and Bristol would still be pretty decent.
If we don't get that then my attitude is bound to change very quickly <laugh>

Regardless of our current goalscoring record, defensive record, poor results, poor performances, good performances, pitch quality, fans booing or cheering, managerial style, formation, lack of prolific strikers.. (maybe I went too far here):

After 28 games, we are still 6 positions higher than we were at this stage in our promotion season, with 5 more points and a better goal difference.

That season, we had very poor results against Plymouth on the first day, (2-3) Blackpool (99th minute winner, 1-2), Sheffield Wednesday, (their first win of the season, 0-1) Charlton, (generally poor, 1-2) Bristol, (pathetic 0-0) Cardiff (late Roger Johnson equaliser, 2-2) Sheffield Utd (Poor 0-2), and the defeats to Preston and Southampton (0-3 and 0-4)

And probably many, many more disappointing losses/draws where we should have won.

My point is that there will always be disappointing results in every season, let's not lose our heads just because we've had a poor scoring record of late. We may have scored only 2 goals in our last 6 league games, but both happened to be winning goals that collected us 6 points.

2 goals in 6 may sound bad, but that's just singling out certain games and pretending to forget the rest. In the four games prior to this little run, we scored 7 goals in 4 games and notched up 4 straight victories.

Yes I'm always convinced by people who's opinion is backed up by playground insults, multiple inane posts and especially hilarious pictures of pink dogs.

Just because I'm not ****ting myself at our recent lack of goals how does that make me "deluded" and my posts inane?

Ok maybe 'inane' was a bit harsh, but guess what? This is a forum where people are encouraged to offer their opinions.
If you disagree then you have the chance to change their minds with the credibility of your argument. You can also just insult everyone if you want, the choice is yours.

I've done both. But my "we're still in 5th place and trust the manager and the players stance" makes me deluded.

I didnt say you did. I'm just saying that I've tried to put my point across and Merchant Man thinks that its deluded. To be fair he's the only one I've directly called a poodle. He does seem to have his knickers the most twisted though!

Yeh great idea offer 4 million for a player that went to Southampton for less than 2 thats the way to run a club.

Barmby's reasoning that last night was "just one of those nights" is flawed. How many chances in all of our recent games have we created and not scored?
It wasn't just last night, two weeks ago he was saying we had created enough chances to win ten games, that day we lost one / nil at home.
Our forwards are piss poor and nothing is going to make them suddenly come good and start knocking them in, he seems to beleive they will come good

The thing I'm always surprised by is that the views of supporters are always regarded as rubbish compared to those of anyone in a management position at a club.
We've all seen the endless schoolboy mistakes done by various managers, but to criticise anything your own manager does is attacked as disloyal or knee-jerk.
There are people on this board who have been regularly watching football longer than most of us have been alive. Does their knowledge and experience count for nothing because they weren't sat in the dug-out?

It seems that the debate is split between those who are frustrated as they are not seeing the potential of the current squad turned into as many points as they want and those who are happy with the status quo as we are well placed in the league. Not a bad argument to be having - Happy with 5th vs wanting higher. I have seen arguments about City over the years that deal with relegations and insolvency, I much prefer this one.

The people who want more are not doing it because they are anti-NB, but because they want even more for the club, they care and are (hopefully) not the same as the idiots who booed our first home draw of the season. I do not buy the NB does not see a problem argument though. I do not think any footballing man, especially an attacking minded one, looks at our goal scoring record and is happy with it. They are not going to tell us those concerns as it only serves to upset the players already here, but we have no idea of what has been said behind the scenes.

I fall in the middle on this one. Looking at the stats from last night, the 3 defeats over Christmas and the West Ham game (off the top of my head) paints a worrying picture, on the flip side, we are 5th!

Look at the spare attackers at West Ham and QPR after yesterday and there are some decent options, lets wait and see.

Can you explain how you came to this conclusion ?.

We are more than half way through the season and are fifth in the league, we got to this position despite only averaging a goal a game.
Now people are saying if we don't score more goals we will finish in the bottom half of the table.

I would just like to know what has changed?.

One way or another we need to sort out our lack of goals . Different tactics , different formation or a different striker in... Guess it's for nick to sort out or our lack of goals will cost us promotion .. Just my opinion.....

As far as I'm concerned the £1.85m release clause rumour is a load of bollocks.
It was originally £3.5m, and clauses don't just suddenly change in January. If it was £1.85m there would have been a much bigger bidding war for him. £3.5m was what Southampton paid.

Obviously I could be wrong but I very much doubt it.
