So sad to see him ;eave for a paltry fee of 3.2 mill. He did great for the club so is he a hero or is he a villain for leaving. Also who's gonna replace him cos yeates is our 2nd highest scoring player with 4.:emoticon-0108-speec

We no longer have a striker who will create his own chances, or score a higher than usual percentage of his chances, therefore the key to our progression is having a midfield that will create plenty.

Do we have that midfield? It's too early to say, but the initial signs suggest yes.

I would also observe that if Dyche knew that Sordell was nigh on certain to be sold in January, holding Murray back should be seen in a very different light to the way many, including myself, have described it so far.

Marvin showed bits of his skills when he wanted not when the club needed them. So if he had stayed and was injured we would be in almost the same position as we are now, no Marvin. Except the others perhaps would not try as much as Marvin will save us when he is fit. He has gone and the team showed on tuesday they can play without him. Who replaced him no one, they did better. They knew they had to work hard and did. I have a horrible idea Marvin was made to look good as he was pulled by Danny Graham on his own he was not as clever. The team may not have as much natural skill now, maybe more as players who did not play and knew they would not play will get an opportunity to show us what they can do.

Let us wait a few games before asking this question as we may have someone already who has not had the chance.

The loan window opens in a little over a week - Weimann or Smith at that stage maybe?

Paltry fee? Exactly how much do you think he is worth? I'd say £3.2M is a fair bit over the odds for a youngster who misfired more than fired - and would put this into the same category as the Will Buckley sale - a shrewd piece of business.

Yeates is our equal second highest scorer - or to be more accurate, our equal top scorer now - Deeney has four as well. I suspect that SD may well be casting his net around looking for a goal-scoring loanee - but isn't everyone - but I do think he would do well to give the Deeney/Garner combination a chance by giving them an extended run as well as handing some 'bit parts' to youngsters like Assombalonga.

He will never be a villain. He never once said he wanted to leave, he has shown gratitude to all the fans and the club and he was always a good servant. The valuation was met by two clubs and he accepted the bigger one. He is not wrong for doing that, im sure any of us would want to better ourselves and further our careers. I wish him well and would happily welcome him back to the vic next year.

Just realised that Forsyth has four too - we're well set for goal scoring replacements! ;)

Well said Bas, again the power of the third party influence. Loyalty does not come into it anymore, or if it does it is few and far between. Money talks unfortunately and these kids are promised the world by the scum that are agents<grr> MS is neither H or V as you put it!!!!

Thats a good article from Baz and a good thing for him to do. I have to agree with the fear that we would get very little come the summer as his contract would be that much nearer ending. My favourite comment has to be

Is is me or is he politely saying "Piss off". Its good to see he is clearly listening to the fans feelings and opinions.

We have a sell on clause in place too so perhaps in the future that could be quite good, depending on how much it is.

Why should he be considered as either?

He is a 20 year old footballer, who came into our team at the start of last season. He has done very well in 1.5 seasons, and is definitely still developing. His goalscoring is very good for a footballer of his age and experience, but decision making and work rate not always, although I suspect they will improve.

£3.5M (at least) is not necessarily a bad price, and he cost the club nothing. We will always nurture academy or lower division players and look to sell on at a profit, and if they are sold at a profit then they must be our better players so why should we be surprised when they are sold, or see him as hero or villain, or the club as either?

Before the start of last season who would have expected Marvin to have done so well in 1 1/2 seasons? So do we know yet whether someone else at the club may now take up the opportunity that Marvin has left? Has Garner been given the opportunity yet? Will it be Brit Assa..... next year? I think it is far too early for us too start bemoaning or worrying about replacing Marvin, lets see if someone else can take the opportunity first.

Silly questiuon really of course he's neither, he was a good servant to the club who developed his game here well and moved on in the right way at the right time to a higher level at a good price. Are we going to ask this sort of question every time a player moves on? I for one never begrudge a player moving onwards and upwards but do tend to get annoyed with those that move sideways.

You all beat me to it. Sad to see Marvin go, but how is it that Watford can get themselves into such positions with these agents? Hameur Bouazza had his head turned, now Marvin Sordell. I can't say if Mike Williamson did but there was something fishy about his move as well.

Yes, we are not the most affluent club but for Marvin to express loyalty, be offered a doubling of his pay packet and then for his agent to suggest the contract be run down so he could leave is scandalous. And then mention of compensation - for whom. I think the only person to gain out of all this is Marvin's agent. Who is this person anyway?

Nice comment from Baz about Cardiff City though.

I imagine we all knew what was in the offing when he wasn't selected last night...the question now what are the positives? 1)we got a good price for MS. 2)we've still got AM(in my opinion our player of the season) and 3) Owen Coyle asked our ex manager MM what he thought of MS and was informed he wasn't up to Premiership standards...he then found out MM had made an offer and gazumped him...good on yer OC!!!
A replacement goalscorer? Garner broke his duck with a cracker from a yard!....could he be on a run now?<party>

He was a good player but I certainly wouldn't call him a hero. He did well coming through our ranks and scored a fair amount for us but was always going to use watford as a stepping stone. I think as soon as Danny left and he started getting England u21 call ups, he had already made up his mind that he was "bigger" than watford and moved at the first real chance. I hope he does well but Bolton get relegated.

I think I agree with most of the comments here, and when I think about what we got compared to Danny it wasn't bad, if the reported figures are correct. Don't forget that quite a large sum of that fee disappeared as a sell on fee.

My real concern is about the statement from Baz. If you take it at face value he has said all of the things that we as humble fans would want to hear. Not doing business with Cardiff, agent interference. talking to GT. All good stuff.

However if you still do not know, because he will not talk to us exactly what he hopes to get from the club, then you have to ask if his PR company have finally got something right. How will the money be spent is my worry. We know that it will not be on buying anymore players this season, so what will it be used for. Getting the SW corner finished? It is going to be done we are told, but there always seems to be a reason why not just yet. Larger bills than anticipated at the Red Lion? Paying off the bonds early has been mentioned.

There are so many questions about the finances and promised works, that until I see something really positive I will continue to be unsure about the man and what his real intentions for the club are.

These days I find once a player has signed for another club they pass out of my radar. MS was quick and skilful at times and has potential. He was always going to move on at some stage...whether he has the temperament to thrive at the highest level only time will tell. I wouldn't say we are now endowed with quality strikers and I doubt if our goals per game ratio will be spectacular for the rest of the season. That said, the Championship isn't awash with brilliant finishers and Deeney and Garner at least look as though they have a desire to improve. The key is probably whether whoever occupies our wide and advanced midfield positions can create enough space to deliver quality into the box...the kind of ball that the like of Devon White and Trevor Senior couldn't have avoided bundling in the net...

ps Chilean Conchagua Valley Carmenere goes very well with Mrs H's to-die-for lasagne. Sadly just looked on line and all stocks of the one we like have unsurprisingly vanished...
