Terry to be tried as a racist in July 2012 - surely he cannot play in the Euros?

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Hoddle is a god, Feb 1, 2012.

  1. I suppose you've all seen the news, that John Terry, the Chelsea and England captain, is to be tried for his racist comments in July 2012.

With such a massive date hanging over his head, surely he cannot be picked for England? I have little doubt that Capello (who has about as much imagination as a potato) will want to pick him, but surely the FA has to step in and make it clear that Terry cannot play, let alone remain as England captain?

His involvement in the competition will make us a laughingstock and could prove to be provocative to the fans of other nations.

John Terry, as big an embarrassment as the club he plays for.

No sense, no style, no class.

He will be picked and will proably remain as Captain, do I think he should? on his current form alone I would say no, but he is, by law innocent until proved guilty.

Like it or not this is the law of the land we live in.

They should take his passport away, he's a flight risk I reckon.

  6. Innocent until proven guilty?

What's that got to do with it?

If anyone of us were to be accused by a colleague of being a racist at work, we'd be suspended on full pay pending the outcome of a formal enquiry into the matter. Why should Terry be treated any differently?

It's an utter disgrace that the FA is permitting him to continue to ply his trade whilst this cloud hangs over his head. It is, yet again, showing itself as having no balls, nor (despite all its platitudes towards the "stamp racism out of football" campaign) the moral courage to do anything substantive in this matter.

And, for the record, I am not the one accusing Terry of being a racist - Anton Ferdinand is.

What do the FA do if he's found guilty in a court of law?

  8. At the very least, he can expect the same sanction as Suarez.

I suppose they would then go through their own procedure based on the outcome?

Not sure to be honest but that would seem most likely...

Had a mouser on our board before saying that Suarez got 4 game ban x 2...once for saying it and then another for saying it repeatedly?

Not really sure of where the precedent lies in that or if in fact this case, should he be found guilty, sets a new one?

the FA are still allowing Harry to manage Spurs and select teamsheets etc etc, and he hasn't been sacked. Why? Because he's innocent until proven guilty.

This might be hard for you to grasp but John Terry, for some obscure reason, represents his country in international fixtures - Redknapp merely manages a football team playing within a national league.

See if you can spot the difference.

  14. Why? Harry hasn't been abusive to other players or other managers, and he certainly has not dished out any racist abuse to black players.

The trial takes place after the final.

A tad presumptuous, bordering on deluded, don't you think?

I can't remember who said it but they made a good point.

At this current moment in time, John Terry is not a racist but is accused of being one. Capello should make an announcement saying that until the case is resolved, John Terry will still be called up for the England squad, but will not play as captain. If found not guilty, he will be reinstated with immediate effect.

I fully understand your reasoning HIAG and in almost all other jobs, this would apply. The only argument I can offer is that football is a business on another level. It is a double standard.

Nothing wrong with abusing players in a game. Swearing happens all the time and there's nothing wrong with it. Racist abuse is different though and that's what the trial's for, to find out whether it was racial abuse. As for regular abuse, Terry (or anyone else) are hardly gonna be stripped of captaincy jsut for telling someone to **** off (ie regular non racial abuse)

It's because the CPS are going to prosecute him, so their hands are tied...the law of the land is innocent until proven guilty.
