No you're absolutely right, clean sheets are not an index of quality defending at all. Of course, the whole team contributes to the defensive role, but how any goals this season were simply due to very bad errors on the part of the defenders, lots. Actually I'll stop now, it's like arguing with Eugene Terre Blanche.
some goals are down to individual errors, most are in fact but its not always defenders making the errors. how many times have we let in one goal and its been a penalty? had the player not given away a penalty (in many cases they didn't - they were poor decisions) we would probably have 4 or 5 clean sheets and this argument wouldn't be happening. honestly, there is very little wrong with our defence - its certainly not as bad as many in this league
Loved the opening post so much i printed it off and stuck it on my locker at work!!! Nicely said and absolutely agree!!! Could not be a happier Norwich fan right now. Things really are looking up for us at this moment and a very bright future is ahead of us. Paul Lambert if you ever get to read this thread 'we love you'
Super great post. I don't think our defence needed improving but it's great to get another promising defender in.
in terms of the lambert leaving point, i'm not at all worried. frankly there is no point worrying. yes he will leave at some point, and yes we will probably be devistated. David McNally, i hope, will still be CEO when that happens, and i have absolute confidence he will get a suitable manager in! Might not be quite as good, but I trust McNally.
max, i wrote the article, in a way, to try and stop the whole 'when will he leave' debate. he'll know when the right time to leave is but there is no point worrying about it. lets embrace his regime and take as much out of it as we can - i think he'll be here for a good while yet and if not, heck - the bloke's a legend anyhow
Great OP. I have to say I've never been so proud of my team as I am now. The care and attention that is being exerted to building our club is fantastic and something that couldnt have been imagined just 3 years ago. It is very clear given the type of player being brought in that these are investments in the future of NCFC, every move that is made appears to be fully considered and thought through and in the mid and longer term interests of the club without taking excessive risks! I tell you what is being built here is something very, very special and will generate a legacy for years to come.
Absolutely. So the prime (theoretical) question is not "Where might PL possibly be tempted to go?" but "Where might DM possibly be tempted to go?" Bringing him on board was a huge coup for the club. It would be fascinating to know how it came about and DM's reasons given that he would have had so many alternatives available to him, not just in football but outside football as well. Great OP Superman
Agree with all you've said Supers, and with everyone else that this is a great post Just one question for you mate - do you ever actually get any work done??
The thing I find surprising about some threads, like this one, is the view that nothing needs to change, OF COURSE THEY FECKING DO. The goal is to constantly improve, to get better players if posible, that compliment/add to the team etc. Every aspect needs to be improved, if it is about the front players, helping them to make better runs., movement etc, thats the point of coaching, or buying new strikers, it part of the development of the club.
So reassuring to see your CEO has gone on twitter and effectively promised us fans that holt isn't leaving nor are any of our squad, fanastic support from the board. Oh and that phrase "i always enjoy watching the last few hours of the transfer window" was a DIAMOND, hour later we signed R. Bennett!
Changing things for the sake of it doesn't always make them better, why upset the apple-cart mid season when we are already perfectly set up for the rest of the campaign? Cast your mind back to when newcastle were 10 points clear back in the late 90's and they brought in Asprilla to improve their squad and push them over the finishing line. World class player, absolutey brilliant on his day but it totally unbalanced and upset an already powerful unit - and the rest as they say is history
longsight, its all about timing. first of all the right player has to be available at the right price and secondly it needs to be right for the squad as a whole. nobody here is reluctant to change - its just that the squad at this moment in time needs tinkering with and nothing more than that. the two new additions are such signings - young players who can come in and take some time to blend in with the others. i'm all for improving whenever possible but you don't just click your fingers and make it work. its all about the right balance and thank god lambert knows how to create that balance!
No it doesn't. Look where we are now, new players could ruin that. Improve in the summer maybe but not now. We are doing really well at the moment. If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it.
Agreed, as i said the goal is to strive to improve. To quote t"o get better players if posible, that compliment/add to the team" I'm not advocating wholesale changes or making changes for the sake of to, where did you get that from?
