Thought Adam played very well again last night, his range of passing and crossing is what won us the game. I think when we play Adam instead of Gerrard in midfield we look like a fast counter attacking side as he pings balls out to the wings (a bit like Alonso).I think when we play Gerrard then the build up tends to be slower, like we are waiting for him to create all the chances on his own. IMO Adam was definitely one of our best buy's in the summer and I think its about time he started to get a bit more appreciation from our fans. Ok, I accept that he looks a bit out of sorts when up against harder opposition and often puts in a dodgy challenge but he has been our most creative player this season and is just what we need to beat the lower league teams we always struggle with.
IMO I think he wasn't that good in the firs thalf... its just my opinion but i hate how he turns his back on the ball and moves forwards leaving the cbs... thats what gerrard does and i call it indisciplied midfield play... just my perosnal opinion. He did well i nthe second.... he was unlucky with the card but again why? cos he's coming from behind due to wandering out of position. I think the whole team did better as a team last night and espcially when goal 2 went in and they relaxed. look, gerrard is the same kind of player and that annoys me too and sometimes you have to put up with the bad parts to ge tthe good parts i accept that but i think that discipline made paul scholes (who also can't tackle or run worth a damn) into a great player. adam has the vision and pass and he's good in the air to boot but until he runs the play and holds position well..... well its a choice between gerrard and adam now for me.
I think we did well for £8m - he provides assists and can score the odd goal. He can take free kicks and corners (though they have been poor this season). What more can we ask for? Of course it will take time. Even Alonso wasn't that great until his last season. Adam was the type of player we needed in central midfield to compliment the DM however we will need an upgrade on him once we become more successful and want compete for the title and Champions League.
I think Adam will improve with time and become more competitive in the harder games! I disagree that he is not talented enough to win the league afterall thats much more about overall team performance and if we'd scored a few more goals this season we could be well within the top 4.
IMO alonso was mightly season one and season 2 and 3 he was injured (lampard bork his ankle) he was fully fit the alst year and showed his class. Adam.... 8mil ok he's fine. but i think its him or gerrar din a really functioning midfield... and thats having options which is good.
I think ok thats not a bad call either. gerrard needs to up the stamina i think but he's done well since he came back. adam or gerrard? both take frees, corners, play long passes and take pens... adam has to do more from set peices as he's disappointed and bellamy taking stuff is evidence of that. As it stands i think gerrad will play v the spuds if fit.
I've always supported Adam, I think he does remind me of Alonso a little. If he gets used to a midfield partnership with Lucas in the future, then by covering Gerrard's attacking play, whilst also providing the long ball option himself, he can pin down a regular position in the team. Having 2 DM/CM (however you want to see them) gives the attackers security to do their thing. So, with everyone fit: .................Reina............... Johnson.Skrtel.Agger.Enrique ...........Lucas....Adam......... Downing....Gerrard....Bellamy ................Suarez.............. Henderson is cover for Downing, Lucas, Adam and Gerrard. Kuyt is cover for Downing, Bellamy and Suarez. Alternatively could play Gerrard out on the right, Suarez in the CAM position and Carroll at 9. Either way, with Adam and Lucas covering, then we have many varied attacking options. That's why Adam is important.
Adam is a good player - no question - and he played well against Wolves... ...but... ...they gave him acres of room to play in and didn't pressurise him when he had the ball. Consequently he had time to look up and make passes. When we played the Spuds at their place, they were right on top of him as soon as he received the ball and ensured he didn't get the time to look up. In that game he was a liability. His tackling was poor and he was dismissed for an X-rated challenge on Bale. I'm not sure he's a good choice for the Spuds game, precisely for this reason. I'd rather have Gerrard start than Adam. Steven hasn't got the tactical discipline to sit deep as a DM, and his stamina may be flagging owing to his extended injury this season, but he's technically better than Adam and his tackling is better. His passing is no less than Charlie's either, and he has the set piece expertise too.
Too many games he is frustrating and doesn't play the standard of football we'd like. But I have also admitted in the past that he is capable of producing a goal or an assist from nowhere which is more than what Downing has done even when he plays well. If he can produce better set pieces and carries on getting assists like he did last night then I'd be more than happy. Although I'm not his biggest fan I don't look at his name on the team sheet and think '****'.
A better midfield would have exploited Adam too easily. He can't tackle and even his marking is way off. Every now and then he'll pick a good pass out, and when they're good they're seriously good, but they're few and far between. Good squad player, but he has much to improve upon for now; tackling, positioning, playing simple passes when needed and his set pieces are awful for some reason this season. For 8mill, can't complain. He'll only get better. His two assists hide a very average (poor in the first half) display though I feel.
I don't get it...we complain when we can't beat the supposedly weaker teams and then when a player has a good game against a weaker team we say...yeah but so he should...I know he's hardly set the world alight but give him credit where itks due at least good article OP...for me it's no good to anyone comparing him to alonso etc just judge him after 12-18 months.
He's had good and bad games, he needs to be consistent I'm sure he will work on that. A few more goals would be nice.
He was a bargain in today's price's imo, when Lord lucas come's back Adam will be freed up and that's what has to happen for Adam to be at his best, he is never going to be a box to box midfielder but he has a great passing range and can deliver a killer ball like he did last night.
As Rubadub alludes too, the key to this is Lucas. He and Adam were starting to form an impressive partnership before his injury, and in my opinion Adam has been less effective since Lucas has been out.
He was defo much better when Lucas was playing, he never had to defend much at all when Lucas was playing because Lucas is such a beast but hopefully Spearing and Adam can form a similar partnership. Spearing has impressed me when he has got his chance.
A few more goals, and last night for the first time in a while, we finally saw some of that Charlie Adam " service is worth 10 mil alone" delivery. He needs to refocus on his set piece and delivery from everything from crosses from open play, corners, FK, etc. Also there was one play in the game, Adam received the ball and charged down the middle of the pitch, like the Adam of Blackpool would have. When we got around the box, it was like he ran out of ideas, let the defender close him down, lost the chance for the pass and squibbed a shot to the keeper. here is where I want to see the Blackpool Adam, get close make the decision, touch, bang. If you miss, oh well, it pulls the defense out the next time you get the chance and then you can find the slotted ball. not bashing, just a few things I saw yesterday and over the season
