    Record books say Gallagher, but wein says Shearer (mainly because he's the best I've see/seen footage of).

    I wanted to say Gallagher, from what I've heard he was brilliant, I wish I'd got to see him play. Shearer is record scorer for the club though, and as a striker, that's all it really comes down to.

    No, Shearer holds the club record! :) Certain of it.

    He beat wor Jackie by 6 goals

    <cheers>

    Suprised Jackie hasn't had any votes actually. Always used to get a few. I went for Shearer though lol

    EDIT: Gallagher had the best ratio games/goals @ 0.82 - That's mental! 143 goals in 174 apps!!!!

    Older generations would have said Albert Stubbins was the best we ever had. Didn't ever see him so can't comment on him but he was regarded as second to none. Another one that Liverpool stole from us.

    Of course Hughie Gallgher [The wee scot's lad, the best centre forward Newcastle ever had.] would have got a lot of votes too. I suppose there'll be old B&W film of them somewhere in the archives, it would be great to have a DVD of it if there's enough to make one, maybe make one of all the famous strikers down the years. We almost always get Shearers goals played when we're on the way to away games, be nice to see a bit of a mix.

    Wyn ( the leap ) Davies was another great striker who I spoke to on a few occassions, a very modest guy who never had thought of himself to be above others. Super Mac wasn't quite as modest as him but I did speak to Super Mac too.

    PS. Hughie died on a railway line near the pitches I played football on for the works team.
