Guys mixed messages are getting sent here. I think we need to chill out and wait for 19:45. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12691/7468071/Latics-lead-Mariappa-chase One min Wigan are out, then have an offer accepted, now lead the chase.
I'm surprised Wigan are being talked about, because I'm not convinced they would spend the sort of money that we would be asking for. Their record fee is something like £6 million, and that was for a striker who never scored in the league (even more shocking given that this is a club where Nathan Ellington was prolific). Are a club like that really going to spend £4m for a lower league centre back?
VitalWatfordVital Watford I can't imagine it's anyone's 'desire' to go to Wigan, you just end up there more than anything. #watfordfc
And there is another twist that we may have missed... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/w/watford/9379292.stm
So was it Friday 27th or Saturday 28th? I don't know but it is on the BBC and it's all very odd. I can see the draw of Wigan, near Manchester and Liverpool for the nightlife and the Pennines for Sunday walks. On the other hand there are the Geordie girls to keep him warm.
1726: For Norwich's Grant Holt, read Watford's Adrian Mariappa. BBC Sport understands the Hornets defender will not be joining Wigan. That doesn't mean he won't be joining someone else, though. Plenty of other Premier League sides, including Newcastle, are interested.
Watford Observer @Observer_Owl Adrian Mariappa has reportedly turned down a move from #WatfordFC to Wigan Athletic.
Why would we sell Mariappa on the last day of the transfer window for anything less then for a substantial fee? We would need to invest that money back into our squad, selling him hours before the deadline won't do that. Sounds like Mariappa might turn down Wigan, which would be superb for us, and possibly him (better places to ply his trade if he was going to leave Vicarage Road?)
SSN seems to think he is pushing for a move to Newcastle... I just hope that if they don't stump up the cash, he won't go anywhere! The problem with him dismissing Wigan straight away is Newcastle know they are now in the driving seat, so if AM really wants a move, they may have to take the lesser amount rather than have an unhappy player! Let's hope the board are strong on this one!
Apparently he wants to go to Newcastle but they have not matched Wigans offer! If that's the case we should not let him go for a penny less than Wigans offer. WFC is far more important then a single player . He will have to repay WFCs commitment to him over the last 10 years and wait for a move in the summer . LB must remain strong .
hi guys, we don't really know what's going on whether he's talking to us, whether a fee has been agreed ect. one thing is certain is that we really need a cb. how does this guy compare to someone like mike williamson and what are his strenghts/weaknesses? no hard feelings i hope and all the best for the season.
No hard feelings whatsoever mate. We have Mike Ashley to thank for Mariappa starting against Millwall tonight.
TOON - Mariappa is a decent, dedicated and loyal footballer. Whereas, Mike Williamson is a snivelling judas ****-head. We have no desire to lose Mariappa, whilst you are more than welcome to that judas - how I laughed when that goal went in off him last Saturday.
