I'm just asking for a bit of respect for each other. Please don't turn this into a personal vendetta, it isn't one.

I'm glad there's an attempt at sense towards the end of this thread. I've pointedly ignored all threads between the pro/con Wenger camps as I find both equally tedious but against my better judgement I read this (thought it was about football) and it was thoroughly unpleasent. That came across to me as an attempt at bullying. Fair play to Toledo for standing up for himself here. A note to many out there, using very selective quotations, large paragraphs and patronising comments doesn't make you right or clever, it just makes you come across like a tw*t.

Looks like I'm back to ignoring all 75% of the threads on this forum again. Any chance of creating an 'ignore' function actually? Was used to great affect on other forums I've been on before.

To me this thread has turned into a non argument. The OP analysed a spread of goals and was correcting in suggesting that a) RVP is getting by far the most goals and b) other players need to score more goals.

Perfectly reasonable and logical analysis. If RVP gets injured we are screwed. In games where RVP doesn't score the chances are nobody else will and this was evident recently when we struggled to find goals.

Someone decided they didn't like the analysis so tried to counter - but what counter argument is there ??? It is defending the indefensible that irks people. Fine, you want to be positive, but however you dress it up we need more goal scorers and if RVP gets injured we are screwed. What's the argument here ????

We are playing with one up front this season and RVP is the point of the diamond so clearly most of the chances will come to him. I dont think this is as much of a problem as the poster makes out, however it would be nice if our midfield could put in some decent shots. I actually think Wenger tells them not to shoot.

So by the same logic, if we had Chamakh playing in that position week in week out he would be getting the same number of goals as RVP due to him being the main focal point of attack?

No because RVP is different class, however Chamakh or Walcott would get allot more goals in that position. Who knows if Chamakh was high on confidence he might actually look good, like when he first arrived.

The last time i checked, Messi played on the right side of the front three, and he's the leading goal scorer in the whole of.....Europe! Basically it comes down to how good you are and whether you have the ability to take advantage of our dynamic 4-3-3 formation....

When logic fails you .... you are left with the ridiculous. Great comeback Lazarus, Topgun's point would make sense if the gap between himself and Walcott/Gervinho wasn't such a chasm. I have no idea why these people try to defend the indefensible !! It makes them look desperate.

Very different kinds of player, Messi does it on his own allot of the time, although RVP has plently of skill he requires service to score goals.

i think the main point is that RvP as almost a lone striker is the focal point of the attack, as opposed to the wingers who are more about supplying goals. the differential between the two is far too great at the moment - the load needs to be shared far more - but it is not surprising that RvP scores a lot of goals.

he is a quality striker, and has demonstrated that over the last year especially.

i do however agree that Gervinho / Theo / Ramsey should be chipping in with 10+ goals per season each. They haven't been pulling their weight in that department of late. I'd like to see some serious shooting practise from the edge of the box.
