He is indeed having a medical down there <ok>

Real shame. We should be looking at players like this as soon as there available. Should have signed the lad years ago to be fair.

Southampton will have some real firepower for the run in & if we dont get our backline sorted then boycotting the Southampton game will be more appealing than ever! <laugh>

I said I couldn't see Southampton faltering and with this added fire power it makes me even more pissed off as I sit and watch another transfer window come and go with nothing special happening into Elland Road

He has a buyout clause of 2m, doesn't he? Well within our means, and just the man we would have needed too.

We should have easily been able to afford Sharp and Wes Morgan, I don't know why I build my hopes up like I do, never going to change under Bates

And who are we bringing in? NO ONE. Just like in the last transfer window and the one before that. And when I say NO ONE, I mean NO ONE. Not a single, solitary player who will improve our team, much less any chance of pushing for promotion or a play off place. Something has to change at ER and until Bates goes, nothing will. Unfortunately, Larry just sits back and accepts what's going on as well and carries on with no budget, signing unproven dross, journeymen and rejects from other teams. And all the while, we are slowly but surely selling off our best players for 'Undisclosed fees' with a sense of 'frustration' and 'disappointment' that's fed back via puppets like Lorimer who, via Bates, tells all us 'morons' that we should get behind a 'United Leeds'.

If he was a true Leeds fan, Larry would tell Pappa Smurf to **** off.

BATES OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And as he once said 'Please God'.

Good players up front at Saints, never mind we can look forward to the loan players.

His buyout clause was 3m i believe and in truth i dont think hes worth that. A slightly better version of McCormack imo. He lacks the pace to be a quality prem striker and he does miss chances that he should score, not knocking the lad but i think you can get better for that sort of price and he's not the type of striker we need, We need another 'Becchio' type of player (i'm not mentioning keogh so dont worry), someone like Rickie Lambert that can play up front with McCormack or even Becchio dependant on form. Those players are so hard to find these days though

On the 1st of January 2012 the release clause in his contract automatically got dashed from £3m to £1.85m, which is an absolute bargain.

Yes, but what was his loan deal worth and how much over £15,000 would it have costs Leeds?

oh ok, i didnt realise that. If that is the case then it is a much better deal. I still get annoyed at all these leeds fans that go mental every time another team buys a player. Billy Sharp wouldn't have added much to our team because he is not what we are lacking (he is a slightly better version of McCormack basically). We need a defender (at least 1), and a big hold it up striker

Agreed, we need defenders, particularly right back and centre backs.

You can justify the likes of Forssell who are crap but not the likes of Sharp because they are only 'slightly' better than what we have, I scratch my head sometimes. The only other excitement on here today has been regarding defenders, Wes Morgan off to Leicester and Smith or Wilson right back

Forssell was imo worth it because he was free and he has had a good career. Its hard to explain my current view on our strikers, I wouldn't say forssell is amazing but he is worth having in the squad. A player like Sharp would improve our team no doubt but not considerably enough and we need to strengthen other areas more importantly

Free of 1.85 million I don't care I know who I would have

Forssell - 30 years old made 267 appearances over 14 years and 39 goals

Sharp - 25 years old made 233 appearances over 8 years and 110 goals

Ristac, your not understanding me. Im not for one second saying forssell is as good as sharp. I am saying that we have McCormack who is the same type of player as sharp (albeit not as good but not that far off imo). We do not need another McCormack in the team.

And on a seperate not, I hate people that use stats to back up there arguments. Stats mean very little in football, they are ridiculously deceiving and irritate. In those stats Ristac, you didnt mention what level each where playing at and also that they are completely different types of players. (Also you didnt include the 26 goals that forssell has scored for his country)

And actually Ristac, I just checked those stats and you are wrong

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikael_Forssell

He has got 267 appearances and 81 goals and if you included international then its 348 appearances and 92 goals. And again they are completely different players and forssell has been playing pretty much his whole entire career at a higher level. (Bearing in mind that sharp has played league 1 level for a few seasons as well and even League 2 for 1 season)

Erm .... if stats don't count, does that mean you don't mind if we go down 1-0 each week? I rest my case, m'lud!

dude, you take it completely out of context.

Im talking about the same stats that suggest Wilfired Zaha as one of the worse players in the championship. Im quoting off the southampton board here but Zaha has scored 3 goals in 66 appearances and has 4 assists. He is currently worth millions and one of the most wanted players from the championship for a reason

The same stats that suggest Keogh is one of the worse strikers the world has ever seen

The same stats that at one point suggested Simon Grayson was a better manager than Don Revie

    Need i go on?

Oo-err!! Bit touchy, aren't we? And here was me thinking that I'd injected a little humour to the thread.
