'what ipswich are doing is bordering somewhere between nasty and cheeky' And the Paul lambert affair?
oh i agree ciderman! i wasn't for one minute suggesting what ipswich are doing is wrong either!! what norwich did with colchester was underhand but these things happened to us in the past, just as you were robbed of your best players when heading into administration. just cos something is underhand doesn't mean it isn't a viable option!! its dog eat dog. you get nowhere by playing nicely...
Two completely different situations... Would what we appear to be attempting to do get us in front of a Football League tribunal, and a compensation payout ordered to Pompey? Did the "Lambert Affair" get the Budgies in front of a Football League tribunal, and a compensation payout to Col Who? Two very different situations indeed...
Not true- we're supposedly inline for a £3 million injection that would last us until near the end of the season. If we can get some of the higher earners off the wage bill (which we're trying to do with Kitson to Brighton) then we wont have to sell are better players. It makes far more business sense to retain our better players. Not only does that give us the best chance of staying up (and so obviously getting more money), it also makes look a lot more attractive to any potential new owners. We have no need to sell Ward, Pearce & Hendo unless an offer which is useful to us comes in- hence why we've rejected 3/4 offers for them. P.S- Personally, I'm not having a go at the morality, perfectly acceptable for you guys to bid whatever you want.
well i personally hope pompey keep hold of their players - anything to stop ipswich improving is fine by me!! you are pushing your luck though. that £3m would have to appear tomorrow i would imagine, otherwise the deals will be done. the immediate future of your club will take preference to hanging on to your players i would have thought. staying up is the least of your worries... its staying alive thats all that matters!! it sounds like talks between ipswich and pompey are ongoing anyway so they wouldn't be ongoing if there was unlikely to be an agreement. it makes me wonder if you realise the trouble you are in. surely you should realise - its not like its a new thing for pompey is it. not paying hmrc is one thing but not being able to pay players wages either... thats not a good sign at all!
Its not that I don't realise the trouble we're in- I feel rubbish at the moment as it looks like we're closer to losing the club than ever before- its just there are two ways of looking at it. Of course, keeping the club afloat is what the administrators will be aiming for, but the fact that we haven't sold these players suggests, to me at least, that a buyer is on the horizon. If that wasn't the case, players probably would've been sold pretty much as soon as the offer came in. Perhaps the £3 million will be used to cover the HMRC bill so we can get through our court date, whilst a new owner is sorted out whilst all this is going on. We don't know. But, I feel pretty confident, that despite being in a terrible position, we don't have to sell our best players- especially if we're able to get a couple of bigger earners out. I guess we'll find out tomorrow. Wages wise, it seems we might have the cash to pay them this month, but because of the who account freezing business its been delayed. Guess we just have to keep fingers crossed again. Anyway, good luck in the premier league, your team has a nice refreshing style- good to see!
thats the key - getting rid of the high earners like kitson! but who on earth would want them? i think the lads ipswich are after seem like they want to stay as they have a connection to pompey in some way, so that may help keep them, but they may not get too much choice in the matter. stay and go bust - leave and the club stays afloat. its a sorry situation for everyone involved so good luck and thanks for the praise
pearce has just tweeted "i'm not going anywhere. As you all speak I'm sitting down watching the Man City game" just a heads up!
Fair enough if they wanted to stay - hats off to them, a lot of players would have jumped ship. Be a good game Pompey v Ipswich shortly, if we can just keep our defence going we'll be fine, and you'll be fine also. Good luck sorting the financial mess
hopefully we will get there in the end. we are pretty well practiced at finding buyers by now. As long as nothing happens in the next 5 minutes i have to say I've been very proud of the lads tonight. they have shown real commitment and togetherness in what can only be worrying times. apparently ward and henderson responded to the done deal with an extortionate wage demand to force a break down in the deal just hope its all true!
Bit risky don't you think? What if the money from the transfers could have saved the club they love? You are lucky to have such talented and commited players but the club accepted those bids because they needed the money and forcing a break down in the deal by extortionate wages demands is a bit selfish. Unless of course they know for a fact Portsmouth will be ok.
Maybe they were just a bit daunted and scared to go to a bigger and better club . Perhaps they wanted to be big fish in a small pond . Respect to them..
