    I can't remember the last time I had a hangover. Cue for SKY + HD to say "That's because you never give one the chance to develop" <ok>

    According to my cousin, who's a doctor, 90% of the effect of a hangover is simply a lack of sleep. So the reason you never have hangovers is probably cos you pass out around 7pm and sleep through <ok>

    Interesting.

    I was always led to believe that it was due to dehydration.
    My wife isn't a doctor, but she has studied medicine, has a degree in biology and was for many years a Cytologist and she reckons it's dehydration that causes it.

    The reason for my hangover was plain and simple - drinking on a virtually empty stomach.

    I normally have a bloody good feed before I go out on the lash, but on Saturday we just didn't get round to it, what with the football and other things going on.

    I was under the impression it was dehydration, which doesn't explain why I don't get them <yikes>

    It's always been put down to dehydration, but the mechanism by which this causes a headache hasn't been proven. The generally accepted explanation is that alcohol is broken down into acetaldehyde, which causes dehydration. But when researchers injected acetaldehyde directly into rats, they didn't show any significant headache symptoms. It also doesn't explain why professional athletes, who are far more dehydrated at the end of a match / race, don't get the same symptoms.

    The lack of sleep hypothesis hasn't been proven either, but it does explain why you can get many of the same symptoms as a hangover (headache, gritty eyes, bad taste in the mouth etc) simply from lack of sleep.

    In reality, it's probably a combination of the two, but most of the evidence indicates that drinking lots (even on an empty stomach) and then getting a good nights sleep leads to less of a hangover than drinking a little and staying up late.

    I always get a far worse hangover if I smoke a few tabs.

    In other news, why is it only northerners can make a decent bleeding brew? Every time someone makes a brew here they get it bloody wrong.

    Here's how it should be;

    Tea; tea bag in cup, boiling water on top, allow to brew then add milk to taste.
    Coffee;add coffee AND milk to cup, add water just off the boil and stir.

    Here's how they do it;

    Tea, put tea bag and milk in cup, add boiling water and leave for three seconds then serve, piss weak.
    Coffee, put coffee in cup, add scorching water to coffee to erase all taste, then add milk to burned coffee and serve, bitter as ****.

    ****'s sake, get it right you southern fools.

    With coffee, I fill the cup with about 1/3 water (& coffee of course <doh>) then microwave it on high for 40 seconds, then add the water (doesn't matter if it's boiling sat this stage). you get a really smooth, milky result <ok>

    A full English breakfast always cures my hangovers. On the rare occasion that it doesn't then I know I really am in trouble...

    My grandad gets the same by doing half half milk and water in a cup then microwaving on high for two minutes then adding the coffee. That's pretty much the only coffee I drink - I can't stand the bitter result you get from boiling water and a splash of milk.

    That's so true - it makes hangovers 20 times worse.

    I recommend smoking ganja, as it's child friendly <laugh>
