The only one I've seen us linked with who you have said you would like is Hooper, who we have basically no chance of getting anyway.
Don't rate Sharp. Too similar to Lee Barnard so I think it would e a plotless signing, plus I dint think he would make it to the next level.
Sharp @ 1.85m would be a good signing. I think he's a level above Barnard however I don't think he is going to emulate his current successes at PL level whereas I think Lambert will!!! Wages would be similar to many better players though
Too similar to Barnard?! Do you watch much football? Sharp is far stronger. His finishing ability is better on both feet, touch is better and he can barge past defenders. Consistently scored 15+ goals for Doncaster in the Championship, and they aren't the greatest. He finishes what he gets. 25 goals in 49 games last year and 41 in 83 competitive fixtures for the club at NPC level is a great record. Also holds scoring records at Scunthorpe, from Adkins time, with figures of 83 apps and 54 goals. Bar a poor spell at Sheff Utd where the whole attack was aimed at giving the ball to Beattie, he has succeeded. Beattie played further up with Sharp dropping, it doesn't suit him. He plays on the shoulder of the last man, which would enable Rickie to roam as he does.
Don't apologise man! Do people not understand by making snappy remarks you discourage genuine posters! Tell them to p**s off lol!
Not my style. Anyhow, I'm pretty happy about getting Collins on board as cover in a position we're a little short on. I don't think we really know how long Fonte is out for and there's always a chance of complications - would rather have a decent loan in than rely on getting Jaidi back to fitness. Remember, there were a LOT of people worried about Jos when we pushed to get him on board.......
DTLW, it's my opinion. I think Barnard is a good enough player and think if we are going to buy a striker we should buy one that is capable of making it in the Premier League. Sharp does look...tubby... And a lot I hid goals are from within the 6 yard box. That's my opinion. Accept it Now go to bed, you have school in the morning.
You say that as if it is a bad thing. Why? It is a skill to be in the right place at the right time and finish it off and is not as easy as you seem to think.
And Lambert didn't look tubby when we bought him? Adkins sorted him out. We need someone who knows where the goal is instead of pass, pass, pass all the time. Barnard's touch isn't great and he does get muscled off a fair bit. Barnard does not have the brute strength of Sharp. There is no need when I offer an opinion that disagrees with yours you feel the need to intimidate someone by talking down to them.
Exactly! the one thing you can say about saints is that we lack a poacher, someone to put things away in the 6 yard box, exactly what we need imo.
Off thread, but says in The Sun that Tadanari didn't want to do the traditional newbie song but took his shirt off and did a martial arts display. Lambert reckons he was very good.
There's equal risk/reward in both Sharp and Hooper. Hooper may be more proven and with a bigger fee to boot, but recent history have shown SPL players moving south have found themselves to be considerably less effective. ESPECIALLY strikers. (Jos is obviously an exception) Meanwhile Sharp has never been outside of the football league, but has been consistant. There's no form guide to help us see if he can step up or not. Numerical comparisons don't work here. Obviously Sharp is the lower risk financially, but Hooper has the greatest potential upside. I just think that certainly another forward is coming. Watch this space.
