Anyone got any good remedies for a ridiculously chesty cough that won't seem to leave (had it for about 2 weeks now!)? Really don't have the time to go to the doctor :p

but the honey & lemon has to have whisky in it. (well, my Dad certainly thought so when I was 8!)

Going to the quack's wouldn't help anyway!

A cup of Lemsip with a liberal dose of Watson's Trawler Rum - or, if you prefer, a cup of Watson's Trawler Rum with a liberal dose of Lemsip. I'd go for the latter!

If you don't have the Rum, Lemsip and Port will have a similar effect.

Morning all..... very nippy up here.... no snow in North Leeds.. but all around is very wintry.

I must own up to being around a bit more in the next few months... My new book contract came in .... which means hours of days sitting in front of the screen... avoiding the job in hand ! So when you see me on here... you will know why i seem to be around more often.... :)

Big meeting with the boss last week.... and he assures us no direct link between course closures and job losses.... ern... oh yeah... cut 65% of my income and I wont lose any staff.... pull the other one! If I can hang on for another 20 months i shall be happy to take the golden handshake..... Where i work a 30% shrinkage predicted in the next 5 years..... 30% of 3,000 staff is not good.

It is going to get very difficult out there.

My sister works in a big finance company which services the public sector and they have just announced 15% staff cuts....

    Anyway have a good day!

Very cold morning here also. When I got up the sky was clear and the sun was just beginning to show over the barns. Since then some grey cloud has rolled in and the forecast is for snow this afternoon.

With the day starting so cold I was reminded of some friends who live out here and experienced a puzzling event. Their freezer packed up last autumn and they lost most of the crops that they had carefully prepared and frozen for the winter. Having been told that the freezer would never live again they went shopping for a new one.

Looking around different stores and web sites they finally decided on one that claimed a 15% saving in electricity usage. It was delivered and placed in the summer kitchen where the old one had been for four years. Plenty of people have a summer kitchen out here, which is a covered area attached to the house, but unheated. The last of their crops were placed in it along with some meat that they bought from a local farmer.

At the beginning of December they went to get some bits out of the freezer, only to find that it had defrosted. In a state of despair they went to the store it had come from and demanded action. An engineer eventually arrived and pronounced that there was nothing wrong with it, it was just where it was situated in an unheated room. It seems that when the external temperature drops below 10C it switches off to obtain the 15% power saving.

So now rather than saving power they are having to heat the space with an electric heater as there is no where else they can put it. The wonders of modern technology are not all they are cracked up to be sometimes.:(
