As i am fairly new to not606 i apologise if this has been discussed before/recently. I was just wondering what the general thoughts were to the value of the champions league.
IF and and I mean if Liverpool were to beat Cardiff, which tbh I not so sure they will and then go on to lift the FA Cup and not qualify for the champions league, would the season be described as a failure. 10 years ago, maybe not but sadly I believe qualification for Cl is more important than two cup wins, which cannot be good for our game. I think the solution is to give the prem winners, league cup winners and the fa cup winners the three cl places. With second place in prem getting the final CL place while we have it but they must start through qualifying. If a team wins a double or treble then we only have one entrant with other places going to other countries or just awarding a bye in qualyfying to some teams and it tough on the ones who dont qualify. What does anyone else think?

    "What does anyone else think?"

Smokey Bacon crisps are well better than Cheese and Onion crisps.

I think if we were a top 4 team again we wouldn't want the CL places going to the Cup winners. Getting CL this year for me is only vital for attracting top players, we wouldn't get that far imo so I would at least like us to get some silverware elsewhere first.

Salt and Vinegar though surely <ok>

In answer to the OPs question champions league qualification is massively important to a club who's won it 5 times but winning trophies and trips to Wembley are ****ing ace as a fan. Would I swap 4th place for the FA Cup or League Cup...yes probably because I'd be loving the Euro games the year after but ultimately will our season be a failure if we win a cup but finish 5th? Not at all...because I wasn't really expecting top 4 at the start of the year.

Tbh i was being flippant because i felt the OP was taking the piss,

Of course CL footy is important to LFC,for the obvious financial benefits and also it would mean a turnaround in our dip in form over the last couple of seasons, plus it would be easier to sign better players being in Europe's premier club competition.

Champions League is an important part of our progression. But its not the end of the world if we do not qualify this season. Especially if we win a trophy.

The champions league makes us more attractive in the transfer market, and is very profitable financially. So it will help us move forward quicker. But if we qualify this season we will have to be very careful to make sure we keep a good balance between europe and the league, as we dont want to miss out second time round like Spurs due to burn out.

Was not taking the p guys. Was actually trying to work out how much power the cl has. No way should cl qualification be better than a double cup win, but unfortunately i think it looks like it is. Once i thought that I was trying to think of a way of increasing the value of the cups, which is what the post was about. Not just because we may win one this year btw. I just think if those who enter the cl had won something it would be better and also make the managers take the cups seriously if the cl place was attached. I do think the down side would be that there are a lot less shocks. It would also have a knock on effect on how serious clubs treat the league, i do think there are a few clubs, (us, arsenal and tottenham) who do not try to win the league as much as try to qualify for the cl. If there were only two spaces it may make things very interesting.

The CL has massive power. If you're a club that consistently qualifies for it then most players would come to your club over others. Look at how much a CLless city offered Kaka and he still rejected them.

Its unfair to give two of the CL places to cup winners though, as you could beat 6 easy teams on the way to win or get drawn away at OT/Anfield/WHL/SB/Etihad. Its much fairer having the 4 spots for the 4 best teams in a league where everyone plays each other twice.

I miss the Tuesday and Wednesday nights. It's also the prestige that comes with being in the champions League and playing amongst the best teams in Europe.

I remember when we beat the likes of Barca, Real, Milan etc, and when Rafa made us the number 1 ranked team in Europe.

Getting silverware improves the squad. Gives them memories, improves confidence, their expectation and will help us get to the champions league.

For the last few seasons, we have almost sacraficed the domestic trophies for the league and come out with nothing.

I think we are rebuilding and domestic cups and silverware are an important part of helping our team develop as competitors.

Salt and vinegar are ****e - NikNacks are quality ( any flavour for me boss ) <ok>

On topic, I don't think CL none qualification along with a trophy would be bad for your lot.

A trophy to build on would be good for you to try and push on for next season - however I hope Cardiff spank you <ok>
