Bloody hell. You'd think Ferguson would take it a bit more gracefully. Yeah, you dominated possession, but just how many shots on goal did you have? In fact we could have had another.
Brilliant entertaining game overall. Carroll finally showed a bit of guts and drive and had a great game, despite being isolated. Made up for him, hope he continues this form. Downing had a great game also, he has it in him to be a good winger. Again, made up for him - that's two good games in a row. I think a draw would have been a fair result, but it could have gone either way really. We showed that bit more passion in the final twenty and pushed more and that's what tipped it imo.
Given that according to you guys we've be declining for over a decade, i think we're doing quite well.
Great result. After last weeks awful display against Bolton Kenny demanded the players prove that they still deserve to play for this club and what better way than beating both City & United in the cup. Wasn't the best of performances by either team, but we had 3 chances and scored 2, United had 1 chance and scored 1. For all their possession they never tested Reina and lacked the creative midfielder. When I saw Carrick, Giggs & Scholes in the middle and Welbeck up front I really didn't think they'd have enough to trouble us.
To be honest, I was happier when we beat City, not that great an a achivement beating United these days.
Bit of dignity required in both victory and defeat I think. Pretty even game, lot of possession for Utd without much real penetration. It could have gone either way. I thought Carroll played the best I've seen him for us today- worked hard, as did Downing. Happy for Dirk, last minute vital goals just about sum up his career for us. He was never MOTM obviously, although his overall contribution was solid. Valencia impressed for Utd, gave Enrique- who is a very solid LB imo- a few scary moments. De Gea should stick to nicking doughnuts- I almost felt sorry for the lad.
Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish after his side's 2-1 win over Manchester United: "My players showed tremendous commitment and great heart. We hung in there and then Dirk Kuyt gets his 50th goal for the club to win the game against Manchester United - so we're delighted." On the Anfield atmosphere he added: "Both sets of supporters were well-behaved and a great advert for their respective clubs. There was a lot of friendly banter between them and that's the way it should be."
I thought he was a bit shaky when Atletico played us in the Europa a couple of seasons ago. The only trouble was we didn't test him enough then, but he's being found out when playing more regularly in the PL. I think Victor Valdes is exactly the same. Decent with the ball at his feet, but a poor shot stopper.
right you lot... lets be honest both ways... anger and gloating left aside here. 1. liverpool got it wrong in the major tactics. Carragher and maxi were very bad and allowed utd to dominate. no legs no skills on show. 2. utd were pateint and composed but not that good. they waited unitl our lack of legs showed and a gap appeared (usually maxi's wing) and then went for it 3. for me motm was valencia. 4. kenny got the better of the subs, we were lucky we wer enot behind by the time they arrived.. kuyt and adam just had more legs and the tactical swithc proved decisive. 5. scholes ran out of legs but one has to feel a midfield for LFc with more legs would have blown scholes and giggs off the park. 6. gerrard ran out of legs big time and was walking most of the second half... that'll happen returning from injury and playing midweek but i don't think he'll ever get back the engine he had. 7. liverpool did get lucky.... the goal came from nothing... that'll happen when it's your day. 8. the ref was determined to not give cards, he booked rafael suprisingly and totally let maxi away with a two footed challenge, he was the same the whole game so i reckon maxi thought he'd get away with it. All in all... utd were the better side but had no cutting edge, liverpool had it wrong and had little legs to outwork utd but once the subs came on the game become more equal and liverpool came into it, we didn't have any cutting edge either but it went our way and the 5th round beckons. Neither side are a shadow of what they want to be, lfc need to rebuild utd do too. Injuries told today.
Like already mentioned Man u did have most of the play and possession, but it is goals that count and we got the result TBH it could have gone either way today,I thought our defense was spot on today Agger showed again what a class player he is when fit, though Enrique looked a bit of. United's keeper made several mistakes and showed that he has still lots to learn Made up for Kuyt with his goal it will do him the world of good Our subs made the game change and we got the result minutes from time.I think neither team wanted a replay so good that it was settled today And last of all big shout for Andy thought he played his socks of and was unlucky not to bag himself a goal GREAT RESULT LADS........NEXT
Well after my half time comments, I'm delighted with Kenny and the result. I never thought he's have the nads to sub Gerrard, but he did, and we won because of it. But I think I'd have still used Spearing. Bellers is all well and good, but when he came on, he didn't bring much, he looked busy, but just made a couple of 1 yard passes. It was poetic justice that Evra lost the match for the mancs, I couldn't have scripted that better for a Hollywood picture! But our underlining problem of not being able to string two balls together is still our biggest issue. We are supposed to be a passing team, but this season we have been so poor it beggars belief! I am hoping we can build on this, our first win at Anfield in many a moon, and try and grab third place in the league. lets see if we can put a small team like Wolves to the sword on Tuesday, or just go back to not turning up.
I think Welbeck was **** today. It's a shame because the midfield played well, which doesn't always happen against Liverpool.
