Before the game I expected we would be thrashed and when I heard the Spurs team I was sure of it. But what an excellent performance from Watford, and how unlucky they were to lose. All over the pitch players won their battles. We contained their attacking threat (Hodson was excellent) and the midfield was very strong. We worked some good attacking moves--how frustrating it was to see us go so close, but not score. Bauben's first half shot was a whisker away ,and in the second half we had at least three chances that Danny Graham would have put away. Of course they had periods of impressive passing play and they can attack at speed, but we did not look out of our depth in this game--not at all. Their goal owed as much to Loach as to Van der Vaart--but he shot and he scored-- were we a bit shot-shy in comparison? The challenge now is to maintain this level of performance over future games; in the Championship it will bring victories for sure. Murray was outstanding--hope he plays again soon.

Any link to that? Because your financial results for 2010 show you paid out £180k pw and even if it includes backroom staff then you're still looking at more of an average of £5k rather than the ceiling.

Very unlucky tonight..lost only to a soft goal and some very good goalkeeping.

Nice to see some excellent attacking play and Dyche being brave in giving the likes of Garner and Murray a game.

Certainly would have impressed those scouts watching Mariappa and Sordell.

Hopefully can play like that more often in the league although not sure teams would give us so much space and time on the ball.

Jake Livermore isn't on £55k per week by any stretch of the imagination, and several other players who played tonight - Walker, Rose, Dawson, Kaboul - aren't on that either.

Facts, eh? Pain in the ass sometimes...

Given time, yes I could provide you with a link. However we did have a couple of players on silly money, Ellington and Sadler, that we couldn't get shot of despite what they were costing. They were a hangover from the days in the Prem. and should be a lesson for clubs that don't have limitless cash.

Maybe you should read what has been said by your own before pitching in with an irrelevant comment.

You mean the part about every member of our squad being on more than £55k per week? The part that is factually incorrect?
I read it, then I corrected it. If anything's irrelevant, it's the stuff in the quote bubbles at the top of this post.

Is the expression "Handbags at dawn" correct for some of the latest entries?

I was out so I missed the game and have now returned. From the reports Watford did very well and certainly deserved more than the result they got, Spurs were lucky to hold out but scored a good goal and live to fight again in the cup. We had some of our young players on the field and they did not let themselves down. Luka Modric was not very good or ill depending on who says it.

Ignoring the ijjits on this thread coz honestly, one or two people seem to be having stability problems.

That was a cracking performance by Watford! I haven't seen us play like that for a good few seasons, it was great to watch, and yes, we made a team full of Prem stars look decidedly average. Sad to say that the goal was stoppable, but the ball should not have been able to get to VdV in the first place. Unfortunately, the only real mistakes that were made in the whole 94 minutes. So proud to be a Hornette right now, and i just hope we can play like that in the league now, because with performances like that, we don't have anything to worry about.

Oh, and btw, there were spaces in both the Watford and the Spurs end...seems all their tickets didn't get sold after all. As for ours, like i said before, it was a shame the restrictions were so tight, there were a lot of people who wanted tickets but couldn't get them in the home end...great pity, but thankfully the atmosphere was still fantastic, and WFC fans didn't stop singing even after the final whistle, with TYO singing for a good 15 minutes afterwards, from the Rookery, while ESPN were doing their on the pitch thing after the game...

Glad that you had something to be proud about H.

I have to make my way up the stairs now and hope that I have no stability problems after my very good Bordeaux. ;)

Glad you clarified that H <ok> Also glad to hear that the game was as good as it sounded. The 3CR crew had nothing but praise for the team throughout and were genuinely impressed. The atmosphere sounded terrific - though I don't know why the away end sounded more subdued than it did for the likes of Brizzle and even Donny. Maybe JM's mike was pointing the other way ;)

lol they were very quiet BB, they sang after the goal, but whenever they piped up for a few seconds, the Watford fans were on them, coz 'we forgot you were 'ere' ;). They did have a good retort for the tax evasion chants though, good bit of banter there, but generally they didn't make much noise, not even when they scored, i guess they realised they were lucky.

If you have to have 400 loyalty points that means not everyone got a ticket because we had a cut off so either you're lying or Watford didn't give us full capacity of the away end <ok>

Haha, that's not how it sounded. Although if that was your lot singing all game you might want to sort out your accents, people say we sound Cockney!

Ohwell, glad you enjoyed your cup final :D

um...no, i'm not lying, nice of you to suspect it though...there were patches of empty seats in the Spurs end higher up, and a fair bit of the front was empty. As far as we're all aware, Spurs were given the entire Vicarage Road end, and the whole width was used, but there were empty seats. Didn't bother me, but since it came up, i thought i'd point it out..
