Hello and welcome to the official Not606 match thread for Saturday's F.A Cup fourth round encounter between Liverpool & Manchester United. The game is scheduled to kick off at 12.45 tomorrow lunchtime and will be available to watch on ITV1. BBC Radio Five Live will have the radio rights to this game.

    Preview/Season So Far.

It's one of those games which attracts attention around the world. Liverpool Vs Manchester United. England's two most successful football clubs lock horns in the F.A fourth round. After both sides came through their respective third rounds game (Liverpool beating Oldham 5-1 whilst United beat rivals City 3-2) all the attention focused on the draw. And the two rivals were pulled out together for the second time in two seasons.

Let's now have a look at the recent form of both sides going into this crunch F.A encounter.

    The Home Side- Liverpool.

    • Liverpool 2-2 Manchester City. (Carling Cup Semi-Final Second Leg)
    • Bolton Wanderers 3-1 Liverpool. (Premier League)
    • Liverpool 0-0 Stoke City. (Premier League)
    • Manchester City 0-1 Liverpool. (Carling Cup Semi-Final First Leg)
    • Liverpool 5-1 Oldham Athletic. (F.A Cup)
    • Manchester City 3-0 Liverpool. (Premier League)

So that's 2 wins, 2 draws & two defeats in the last 6 games in all competitions. Indifferent to say the least. The two wins have been in the Carling Cup and the F.A Cup and we are without a win in the Premier League this year. It's been disappointing in the Premier League so far for Liverpool. Just the 1 point gained out of a possible 9 and a quite frankly, pathetic, performance at Bolton. The cup games have been a lot better with 2 wins and a draw from the most recent cup games. A 5-1 win against Oldham Athletic made sure that Liverpool got into this stage of the competition and booked this game. A 1-0 win over Manchester City in the Carling Cup semi-final first leg gave the reds the momentum going into the second leg/

The most recent result has given Liverpool confidence going into this game. A 2-2 draw with league leaders, Manchester City, has meant that Liverpool have made it into a cup final and a first visit to Wembley since 1996. This will have boosted the whole football club and everyone at Liverpool Football Club will be looking forward to this game.

    The Away Side- Manchester United.

    • Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United. (Premier League)
    • Manchester United 3-0 Bolton Wanderers. (Premier League)
    • Manchester City 2-3 Manchester United. (F.A Cup)
    • Newcastle United 3-0 Manchester United. (Premier League)
    • Manchester United 2-3 Blackburn Rovers. (Premier League)
    • Manchester United 5-0 Wigan Athletic. (Premier League)

    *Most recent game at top.

So that's 4 wins and 2 defeats from United's last six games in all competitions. A decent start to the year, i'm sure you'll agree. After two straight losses at home to Blackburn and an away loss at high-flying Newcastle were damaging to United but they bounced back well. After these losses, many people were backing City to inflict more misery on United but this wasn't to be. United raced into a 3-0 lead and at half-time, everything looked good. However, City came out and started the fightback with two goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half. United held on and that has helped improve thier league form.

United have played twice since and won both games. Scored 5 and conceded just the 1 goal. So United will be going into this game feeling confident as well!

Should make for a great game!

Just looking at that badge just makes me feel ill!

This will be tough coming after the City game but we might be alright.

If Bellers doesn't play I think we mihgt struggle for goals bar set pieces.

It's all part of United's plot to replace all world leaders with lizard people under Fergie's command!

Yeah, that Liver Bird does look weirdly mutated - when you combine it with that turquoise/vomit shade around the badge it always make me a bit queasy...

    Also:

    De Laet-Rio-Vidic-Jones
    Nani-Fletcher-Cleverly-Young
    ---------Ando
    ---------Owen

Not only do we have an entire team injured, but it's a pretty damn good team at that!

Isn't Rooney meant to be out to?

In that case our team of injured players will be even stronger! It does bring home the strength of our squad tho - we could be without all those players and still put a good team out:

    Rafael-Evans-Smalling-Evra
    Valencia-Carrick-Giggs-Park
    ---Berbatov-Hernandez

    Not too shabby!

It wouldn't finish in the top 7 though, so its not that good.

It would if Fletcher was fully fit (i.e before his medical condition) and we had a decent keeper and striker. If Rooney actually is out, then that team would have a good shout at the top four!

Still a strong team indeed but Evans could be the weak link if we're to have some success

True, but then our defence is always going to be the weak point - so many injuries and enforced changes that we haven't had a settled CB partnership since August!

Good point, A lot also depends on whether Bellamy starts. I doubt he will though which is a big shame

Plus if Anderson played like the player he was reputed to be when he joined, not the horrendous player he's been for Man Utd.

The midfield four and centre back partnership are title winning partnerships/players. The rest are either out of position or just gash though.

Anderson's done fine when he's fit, he's just never stayed fit for more than a few months! He must have the knees of a 35 year old by now. And with seven title winning outfield players and Jones we'd be able to afford a few passengers and still make top four. Chelsea seem to be managing it! ;)

Lol, have you read Hansen's match preview on the BBC? It starts as an attempt to discuss the match and turns into his desperate attempts to defend Carroll, Downing and Henderson <laugh>
