On the OS, CP says that Alonso is physically fit and only needs games to sharpen up. In that case I wonder why he didn't play at Margate instead of Freddie Warren, especially as CP names five central midflelders in the pecking order ahead of Alonso, but does not include Warren among them. It would make sense for Alonso to go out on loan as he won't get any first-team time in the foreseeable future. If he is fit and mentally right (and no-one has suggested he isn't) I still think he could be a force at Div One level. He wasn't quite quick enough to claim a regular place at Bolton in the Premiership, but that shouldn't be a problem at our level unless he has drastically slowed down since then, and he didn't have any problems with the physical side of the English game. Send him out on loan and let's see what he can do!
So you don't think he'll be following in the footsteps of Cory Gibbs, Martin Christensen and Omar Pouso? I've aleady got deja vu.
Or even "deja Moo" which is the feeling that youve smelled the same Bulls@@t somewhere before! I'm with you both on this Stu and FHB. I just dont think CP fancies Alonso and probably had a limited amount to do with his signing. I'd bet at least a fiver that we'll never see him in a first team shirt in any game of consequence.
I have a sneaky feeling that he was not a CP signing, thought he was an unusual choice. I reckon he was to do with Jeff.
The Alonso situation is indeed puzzling, you wonder if there is a more serious issue that they don't want to talk about, as for a player to arrive then virtually vanish for several months is odd, unless he is injured?
I saw Alonso play against Carshalton in the pre-season friendly when he got injured. He looked ok on that day, admittedly against poor opposition.
I agree. I was thinking that too, but CP seems a fairly straight-talking guy who would leave the bull**** to devious, shifty types like our chairman. If he thinks Alonso is NBG, why would he talk him up in this article (sorry, the OS won't let me copy and paste his actual words here)? http://www.cafc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10267~2589874,00.html If the guy is an embarrassment and CP wants to see the back of him, surely it would have been kinder and more honest to have said nothing (which is more or less what they have all been saying about Alonso until now - "nothing"). The fact that he has gone out of his way at this juncture to say nice things about him being fit, being a likeable guy and fitting in well, etc, suggests CP thinks that he is not a total write-off.
Transfer window ? ... not that other clubs would be reading the website to find out about our players
No but his agent may tell other Clubs to read them? Anyway other clubs would read not606 to do their reasearch wouldn't they? We all know we do other clubs reasearch for them don't we?
I'm surprised, if it didn't work for him, that he didn't agree to go back to Spain during the window. It's not as if he's got a lucrative 5 year contract to sit out (like Winston Bogarde say)
I heard months ago that Alonso was having his contract terminated. This was from someone at the club, this didn't happen. But i don't think you will see him in a Charlton shirt. If he is fit and he didn't even play against Margate it tells you all you need to know.
