Jack Wilshere is on Twitter again.

‘Arsenal fans great as always!’ he tweeted. ‘Sorry about the result, good luck to Barca, great team! Oh yeah, and the ref was good as well.’

Yeah even though the decision was a little harsh that's the reason for the defeat. The ref. So Jack it wasn't this:

    MATCH STATISTICS

    Barcelona Arsenal

    3 Goals scored 1
    10 Attempts on target 0
    7 Attempts off target 0
    5 Corners 2
    49' 3'' Possession (time) 22' 41''
    68 Possession (%) 32
    8 Fouls committed 19
    0 Yellow cards 5
    0 Red cards 1

They made 10 attempts at scoring. Arsenal created ZERO. Even the Arsenal goal was scored by a Barcelona player. That's the reason for you going out, stop trying to blame the ref.

I think Wilshere was being genuine in his thanks for the ref. He was probably referring to the first leg, where the ref was Arsenal's key contributor. Then again, he may have been referring to the ludicrous decision to not award a penalty to Barca in the first half last night or to not send Wilshere off for umpteen fouls after he was booked.

Someone told me that Arsenal completed about 49 passes in the 1st half, Barcelona 300 or so <laugh>

You do wonder at the sanity of some Arsenal fans.

I reckon there will be at least a tinge of disappointment there.

Everything jack said is fair enough, congratulated Barca.

And as for the stats, if you dont take the opportunity with the chances you have then you deserve nothing, Barca were wasteful and we defended well.

If a game was decided on how many shots you had what would be the point in having a keeper

If you don't shoot at goal, you don't score. Pretty obvious.

Where exactly did Wilshire blame the ref for the result? Go on, find it.

Wilshire and Nasri both criticised the ref after the game, and then both made similar sarcastic tweets claiming he was good. Wilshire's obviously trying to avoid reacting like he did after the Newcastle match by making a thinly veiled criticism. It's subtlety worthy of David "I got booked on purpose you know" Beckham...

He meant the ref made a stupid decision I assume, which the ref did. There is a difference between saying that and saying the ref is the reason we lost. I see absolutely nothing wrong with what he said.

While the decision may be a little harsh it technically was a cautionable offence and under the Rules of the Game, 2 cautionable offences means bye bye.

Think about that and what happened last night, we dont even need to take shots, we're that good.

    :p

Seriously though, the ref spoiled the spectacle a bit by being over zealous. We may not have had a shot on goal even if RVP had stayed on, but we could have defended better.

But it's all what if's now.

Anyway. At the end of the day, i'd love to see someone pump Barca.

As long as Chelsea or Spurs dont win the CL, im willing to put my support behind your lot.

Me too pal, I'm sick of hearing about them. I loved it last season when Inter put them out. Such poor losers too.

A little harsh? It was disgraceful! There was absolutely no need for it and whether you think he heard the whistle or not it hardly took a lot of time out of the match. Half of being a good referee is trying to interfere in the game as little as possible, if every ref was a pedantic as that most matches would be decided by who could avoid trouble the longest, not who was the better team.

Its just so harsh that even when we probably would have lost we still get a joke of a sending off against us. We were level at the point but after it we could not even get out of our half.

I'm trying to be objective here. Yes it was a cautionable offence whether you like it or not. But yes the referee could have used discretion and warned RVP.

Rooney should have walked against Wigan and myself and many other Utd fans said said so. But I also was angry that he endangered our chances of winning with such a needless stupid challenge. Have any of you Arsenal fans questioned why RVP was stupid enough to kick the ball away after the referee blew up? Before you answer that the noise from the home fans was loud and drowned out the whistle, do remember the Barcelona players heard the referee.

I loved it too, but for different reasons. I'm a big fan of short passing, attractive and attacking football, but also a big fan of tactical nous and strategy. Whilst it's great to watch a team like Barca take their opponents apart, it's also great to watch a team achieve a result through having a game plan and a team approach that utterly negates their opponents strengths and ruthlessly exploits their weaknesses. SAF is pretty damn good at this, but Mourinho is the master. Inter vs Barca last season was a joy to watch imo.

Good young player, but he's got one of those irritating accents you hear youngsters with these days. White London kids trying to "sound black" instead of cockney. Eastenders is awash with them. Before the PC crew open up a huge can of whoop-ass, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the way black youths talk, it just doesn't suit a little squirt like Wilshere.
