    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...4/Chris-Samba-news-Samba-wants-a-divorce.html

Apparently, when Samba signed his new contract, the venkeys made a load of promises about them signing loads of big players and pushing for Europe... <laugh>

Does anyone not see how great of an opportunity this is???????????????????

He's said he wants to leave, he's training with the reserves, the only other rival at the moment is ****ing QPR!

He says he has big ambition, so QPR will probably be able to offer him a bit more in the wage department than us, but we're in a much more attractive position, QPR are only just above Blackburn.

And to be honest, they're not exactly going to be beasting the league with players like Alex and Onuaha. Those sorts of players are for mid table ambitions at best, not Europa League.

Look I know some of you don't think he's that great, but even so, wouldn't it be better than signing some championship defender that we literally know **** all about?

Samba is a solid defender, a team leader. He could captain the side and do a good job of it if Colo is ever out.

He's a proven premier league center back, and he wouldn't have had interest from big clubs like Spurs and Arsenal recently if he was only an average CB.

If he keeps on going on like this, I'm pretty sure Blackburn will have no choice but to sell him and we could get him for less than the 10 mil asking price.

As long as he's sold to someone I'll be happy as he won't be playing against us on Wednesday.

Yes he's good, yes he'd be a good signing, yes he'd slot straight in, but he'd cost around £8m and having just spent £8-10m on a striker I can't see us spending that without someone being sold.

On balance, I'd stick with what we have.

QPR have been reported to be offering 7 mil, if we offer 7 mil we can at least have an equal chance of our bid being accepted when Blackburn finally accept that it's over.

Then it will come down to talks with the players. If Samba isn't just after big wages, he'll come to us, if he's just after more cash he'll go to QPR and we'll have dodged a bullet.

He's probably on 50k a week at Blackburn, we could match that and offer him a big opportunity to come from a relegation side, to a side in the top 6/7

I don't think its worth it. Obviously if we signed him I'd be over the moon but it would not be very Ashley-like.

8-10 million for an over 25 who may not get into the team when we have everyone fit.

Willo,Saylor,Colo - all three of these are very competent centre backs.

Yeah, I do get the impression he's after a big pay hike to the £80k p/w that QPR would cough up.

Him, Taylor, Willo and Colo would be awesome CB coverage tho.

Willo is decent but not what we need if we're going to push on! He's good cover but that's it. Saylor is class but you can't rely on his fitness!!!

We can't just hope Saylor stays fit again. If he gets injured then it's back to Williamson again.

Samba would come, and if he proves to Pardew he's better than Willo, he'll start, and then Saylor when he gets back will have to earn his place back again.

    It's all about competition.

Everyone will fight for their place and Pardew will decide!!

That's what it's all about. Saylor just can't be relied upon for his fitness.

Yeah, sadly Saylor is guaranteed to miss around 10-15 games at least per season with injuries - possibly more if his shoulder injury keeps coming back.

I take the point about rather having him over Mariappa (Perch V2)

But, having Samba, Colo, and Saylor would cause a headache. Who do you drop? Neither of them would take too kindly to sitting on the bench I dont think. It'd also be a kick in the teeth to Saylor right now too. Be like "Oh, now you're injured. We dont need you". Plus, Samba would demand stupidly high wages, and would cost too much in transfer fee's. Thats not even taking bastard Agent Fee's into account either.

So, no to Samba from me. I dont think he is any better than Saylor or Colo, who I'd rather see as our first choice pairing. Samba wouldnt wanna sit on the bench would he?

We still need Saylor. Just because Samba might get picked ahead of him at times, doesn't mean Saylor will always be cover. It depends on the game.

I feel sorry for Saylor, but we have to be realistic, It's clear that he just can't stay clear of injuries and we can just rely on him to be fit. I don't like relying on Willo.

Willo is a canny CB, but just not what we need if we're going to push forward.

Have I seen this thread before?

I would type out a paragraph explaining why I think Samba would be a bad move but I dont want to repeat myself.

I think thats abit unfair on Willo to be honest. With more game time, and confidence I can see Willo really pushing on in the future. I'd be very happy to keep him in the squad for a few years to come. Would like to see another young CB added though

Just to provide that extra bit of depth, and potential talent

Willo is a good player, I'm not saying he's ****e or anything, he'd be great cover, but I don't think he's 1st team material. I don't want to have to rely on him for 20+ games a season, he's not good enough for that.

I'd just want him in a bit of an injury scare or in cup games or even early stages of Europa League!

He could be part of the squad defintely.

If we're going for Europe, you need to be able to put out almost 2 different quality sides.

I firmly believe Willo has what it takes to be a first teamer. Just needs confidence, knowledge and game time. Two of which, I'm sure he can gain from learning from Colo.
