To our southern friends/ those who have been to WHL,

I've just bought my ticket for the game. Now, with the match set to finish around half seven, what would be a good estimate of a return journey to Kings Cross/St Pancras?

There are going to be works on the day, which means getting a bus, walking and then getting the tube, with the last direct train back to Sheffield at 20.55. What with the disruption, and the general delays/jams of everyone from the ground trying to get back to central London, would it be too optimistic to expect to be back for around then?

My other option's waiting until 22.00 and getting the train to Doncaster and begging for a lift from my gf's friend.

All conern could be avoided if I bought an open ticket, but current prices stand at a mouthwatering £15 each way, and I'd like your advice before I splash out on an open return.

    "Session Expired

Sorry, your session has expired. Please click here to plan a new journey: TfL Journey Planner "

Yeah, I looked at that before, but often with big events journeys take far longer than the predicted time due to crowds etc. I remember it was supposed to take about 20 mins to get to Picadilly from Old Trafford and took more like 70mins.

    Crap.

It wasn't too bad a journey, bus or walk to Seven Sisters (through middle of Tottenham mind) then tube to King's Cross. Would get you there in plenty of time. Or bus to Wood Green then tube on Piccadilly line. Half hour I'd guess.

Great, cheers. Well I'll book the nine o'clock train and play it by ear on the day. I imagine there'll be a few heading to Kings Cross so if there's a decent amount of people in Tottenham I'll walk it to Seven Sisters. Judging by the events of last summer, it's probably not advisable to do so by myself at night?

Due to the recent remodelling of the Tottenham area you'll find it may cause additional delays. If your delay lasts for longer than 20 minutes, Tottenham council will placate you with a free bag of Basmati rice available at many retailers in the Tottenham area.

Note that this is a 'help yourself' policy.

If your train leaves at 20:55 from Kings X you'll make it in time as there are a few tube and rail connections near the ground to get you back.

Marvellous. I'll probably be hungry on the journey back so this will help no end.
