That is a very dangerous game to play with only 6 days of the transfer window left. What if no-one makes another offer? Pompey aren't in a strong negotiating position, in fact it is about as weak a position as a seler can be. That will drive down the price.

It should also annoy any British taxpayer. Pompey owe the country a vast sum of money, having already failed to pay a previous £35m tax bill and are now not paying tax again and instead continuing to trade, pay wages with no tax on those wages and turn down money that could go towards paying the taxman. Pompey should have had a fire sale from 1st January and be using the youth team players now.

The truth is that teams know you need the money and want all your players on the cheap.......In truth youcan't blame Pompey for not letting them go under there true value. What is worrying though whether the administrator has over valued them.....just a thought!

We didn't want to let players go under their true value... but we had to, we had no choice... we had to have a season where Pattison was our star striker!

Why shouldn't Portsmouth sell their players? even if it's below value... life sucks, money doesn't care... their tears don't add value.

take off your football hats and put on that of a reasonable businessman. And see that the club are failing to make any effort in which to pay this tax bill after owing 35 million... punishment now needs to be severe.

True Ted, but as I, and other posters have mentioned, we need the cash upfront - perhaps Ipswich, Millwall, etc., haven't got the "readies" to do so.

We owe £1.6 million, so a downpayment of say £500,000 would hardly satisfy the taxman would it ?

Stop going along with this belief that you have a choice, you don't.

if you can only get 500k up front, then sell other players until you get the full amount... even if you have to sell your entire starting 11 to raise that money.

you think the taxman would give a damn if this was any other business? they wouldn't... the business in question would be dead, and the only reason PFC survived was because of a spineless judge who was swayed by 'passion'.

Hopefully Lord Justice realist is in charge, instead of Lord Justice spineless man.

Even though I am not a Pompey hater wishing doom on them, they should never have been let off in the 1st court case. It was an incredible decision. HMRC don't like some of the special rules that apply in football, so will pursue this with vigour. Remember it's not 1.6 million full stop...it's 800,000 a month..it will get bigger as time goes by.

Chill redandwhitecomrade - you're going to burst a blood vessel.

The fact is that you have absolutely no idea what negotiations are going on for Pompey's players. All anyone has heard about is Ipswich.

And it's no good shouting at Wooperts_duck - I think he would be in a great deal of trouble if he went out and started selling players (that he doesn't even own).

I just have this image of you foaming at the mouth - ugh.

you just dodge the point and tell me to chill. Answer me as to why you shouldn't be selling players left right and centre? you have huge debts and an unsustainable wage bill that is crippling your club and local businesses that deserve to be paid.

we sold the following (and more)

    Kevin Phillips
    Crouch
    Niemi
    Walcott
    Quashie
    Bale
    Baird
    Pele
    Jones
    Davies
    Mc Goldrick
    Surman

and had to have this as a team:

    http://en.eufo.de/index/squad/southampton-fc/2008-09

so why should you get to keep your whole squad, and lose nothing?

    Who are you? My Boss?

Read it properly, I said "The fact is that you have absolutely no idea what negotiations are going on for Pompey's players."

Nobody outside of PFC knows. Because we don't own the business we don't get told. You have got as much information as we have.

And it's been over 20 days and yet your club haven't sold a single player... it's a disgrace.

the sooner PFC goes for good the better, it won't be missed.

They would be missed, and not just by Pompey fans either. As 3rd eye says, none of us knows what is going on behind the scenes, just as none of saw the Puncheon reconciliation coming. The last few years for PFC have been like a modern day Greek tragedy. I just hope for football's sake that something can be sorted out, although I am beginning to think that in the long term it might be best to liquidate the club and start again free of all the corruption and filth that is sticking to a once proud name.

Nobody... I wouldn't have any hatred.

I don't have hatred for any other club because even Millwall aren't as bad as Portsmouth.

Portsmouth fans are a mixed group just like us. The vast majority who are only supporting their local club after all (unlike many fans of PL clubs) will be decent people who are suffering at the moment. However, I cannot see the club surviving in its present form. What sensible business man would buy it?

Even if the club was bought and paid off HMRC they could still keep the court date bases on two previous WUPs and in case Pompey surprise surprise fail to pay tax in February too

Desperation and smacking spring to mind. If he's backed by The Sun he must be bad news. I've watched better run businesses go to the wall. You reach a point where it would be better to get out and start again. A fans owned and run AFC Portsmouth playing in the Evostick League would be preferable to me, if I were a Pompey fan, than limping from one crisis to another. Remember, my blue friends, I actually like Pompey!
