That is the boy scouts ain't it? It is an affirmation in the courts if you don't want to swear to God, but the court system is for the queen, so you have to say that if you are serving the judiciary.
I did jury service and I did an alternative one as I didn't wish to swear alliagance to the queen (or god) ...
http://www.scotcourts.gov.uk/courtu...rvice_in_the_High_Court_and_Sheriff_Court.pdf Maybe it just swear to god or affirmation in Scottish courts (FTQ) I did affirmation as I dont belive in God (or the Queen)!
I had a bit added about jurors and giving evidence but I thought that moved a bit away from the point. I meant serving the judiciary like a QC/ barrister might. The Affirmation not to include God or the monarch for witnesses and jurors is enshrined in the Oaths Act. As a point of interest, Commissioners of oaths (solicitors who can swear documents for use in court etc) have a practice not to put the money they get for doing it through the books..... I don't know where the practice came from, but they all do it.
