I heard on TalkSport that Walnut is demanding a 4 year extension + £85k per week!

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Hoddle is a god, Jan 26, 2012.

  1. The Gooners don't appear to have picked up on this news yet, so it must be fairly hot-off-the-press.

If it's true, and the fact that's it's been made public seems to imply to me that Walnut is trying to engineer a move away from the Emirates, because there is absolutely no way Whinger will sanction that kind of contract for a player who, at best, shows only infrequent flashes of greatness. He is a player that simply has not fulfilled the promise of his youth, and there is no way he is worth that kind of money.

Also, if that's the kind of money that the Gooners are going to have to pay to keep Walnut, what the hell are they going to have to pay RVP?

Finally, surely the "fair play" rules will dictate that they simply cannot pay that kind of money any longer?

    Walnut is clearly deluded.

  3. Okay, I didn't spot that. Trust TalkSport for being two weeks behind the news!

And good on you and your fellow (sensible) Gooners for treating his demands with extreme cynicism <applause>

Unfortunately, i fear that Mr Walnut is in mortal danger of disappearing up his own fundamental orífice.

He holds the 40 yard sprint record.

That has to be worth £85 of anyone's money.

  6. This topic is quite relevant for us Spurs fans, too. If Walnut is demanding £85,000 would we all agree that Modric is worth at least that, even with our wage restrictions? Certainly, Bale must be worth at least that? I'm betting that either of those two players could go to another club and command that kind of money quite easily. Could Walnut?

By those standards Bale could demand £500,000 a week.

City would probably find that quite a reasonable wage, actually.

  9. And that's the issue, right there.

Players like Bale actually have a case to make, should he ever decide to make huge wage demands - which I doubt he ever will, because he's likely to be offered such sums on merit (albeit that Spurs might not be the club offering them).

Walnut, on the other hand, is seeking the kind of money that Nasri was after, but without actually having merited such extravagant sums.

Which club is dumb enough to pay ludicrous wage demands to grasping players who are grossly overinflating what they're worth?

    Oh, wait, this one...

Given they can expect at least £25m from Liverpool, that's enough to sign a replacement/upgrade - or give Oxo a run in the team and sign three or four top prospects.

Either way it's not exactly bad news for Wenger...

    It's still Wenger though, Croydon.
He'd go out and buy some prospect, then play Arshavin or Rosicky ahead of him before bringing Diaby back from the treatment table for his standard handful of games.

When Walcott first came on the scene, he appeared to be a huge talent and prospect for England and such a likeable figure along with his girlfriend Melanie Slade.
fast forward 6 years, and he is probably the attacking equivalent of Titus Bramble with a bit more arrogance - always expecting him to c**k up.

For an individual who must know that he is playing badly, and that the fans know he is playing badly, how can he think that he deserves such a pay rise and such a contract extension? It makes no sense unless Wenger is trying to engineer him a move away from the Emirates.

This story is so ridiculous that I am going to give Walcott the benefit of the doubt and assume that Wenger is trying to orchestrate a move out of the Emirates for Walcott in order to bring out the best in Ox-Cham.
