Oath of Allegiance

I swear by Almighty God that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, her heirs and successors, according to law. So help me God.

The above is the oath that MPs must take if they want to enter parliament in London. It pretty much rules out Athiests and Republicans.

Would you take it?

Should it be changed?

What would you propose in its place?

Athiests and Republicans shouldn't be allowed to be MPs anyway, so just keep it the same!

 

I had to swear the Military one the other day, on the Holy Bible. Despite the fact the Army knows I'm an atheist, the fact that the Bible means **** all to me and I find the concept of God completely moronic.

 

The British Army make recruits take an Oath on a Bible? Can you refuse it?

it has to change. well out dated. eveybody deep down knows there is no god

you can opt out in court and do another oath. but as i said is it worth the hassle? court has enough hold ups as it is. ****ing farcical place.

 

Aye, I think you can get the Oath changed so you don't have to say ''so help me God'', but you still have to swear on the Bible You can't just refuse the Oath point blank though, I read somewhere you didn't have to swear on the Bible but I wasn't given the choice even though they know i'm an Atheist.

 

The amount of money pocketed at court due to briefs delaying and fannying about is crazy. I have never had a case heard within the first three sittings. Put back, put bact etc zzzzz and that is pleading guilty too.

 

court is probably the biggest waste of money ever. it's insane

 

Why not just swear allegiance to the army and your fellow soldiers? Once you're out in the field of play, there'll be no ****ing god or queen helping you.
