I'm going to the leeds game in march with my uncle and I was wondering what it's like in with the opposition fans ?. I remember watching the highlights of Saints v Brentford a while back and someone went mental when saints scored and he was obviously in with the brentford fans. If I tried a stunt like this at Elland road would I be murdered / stabbed / worse ?
I sat on my own in the Stretford end when we drew 3-3. Didn't jump up when we scored but still got some verbals because I was obviously not a united fan. Also sat in the Chelsea stand for a saints game. sat at Wolves end too and man City.
Just don't be over exuberant & you'll be fine. Done in a few times, its still fun, but you'll look a bit of nob air punching while everyone else is holding their heads, so just be mindful & you will be fine! (stabbing, things are not that bad up there, come on)
Well, you want to rub there noses in it in the home end, I'd expect a few punches, but taking knives into grounds, not likely at all. Those people hang around street corners in the dark, surely.
Was at the last game of the 08/09 season when we got relegated to league 1 at Forest. We lost 3-1 and they sang stand up if ur staying up which was frustrating to say the least!! Went to see saints play Notts County in the league cup in 06/07 and we lost that 2-0 as well!! As long as you don't celebrate tyou'll be fine although they don't like you wearing your teams colours either
There are Leeds fans that other Leeds fans won't sit next to! Vast majority of Leeds fans are brilliant - like a lot of northern clubs. I always went on the Kop for Saints games at Anfield pre-seating and having the piss taken was the worse that ever happened - but suss out the fans around you first would be my advice.
If going corporate or being in a box/private suite counts then yes. However I personally wouldn't sit in the home end with all the normal fans.
Have you ever been the away fan in with the home fans ? Not the box, eating prawn sarnies mate, he's talking about us dirty ones in the crowd.
I was at Man City in the boxes when they played Saints. we lost so I think I was tolerated. In my innocent teens, I went with an Arsenal supporter to watch them play cardiff and cheered when the Gunners scored..got away with it because I was a pretty blonde (if I say so myself). Would play the senile old lady card now
I sat with the Orient fans when it was 2-2 a couple of years ago as the away end had sold out. I was surprised that when Orient scored only half of the stand jumped up and cheered! Then I realised that the half still sitting down were all Saints fans! It was hard to contain myself when Lambert smashed in the equaliser!
Last year Bmth v Saints - only ticket I could get was with the Bmth fans. My cover was blown with the Lambert free kick for 3-1. The guy next to me said "Are you a Saints fan?", I said "why?". He replied "Your body language hides it, but the huge smile on your face gives it away!"
A Pompey fan got a smack for celebrating in the Leeds end at Elland Road last season. So when you score (yes, when), it's probably wise to keep your celebrations inside your head. By the way, I always bring a knife into the ground with me.
My brother took me to Chelsea V Leeds United in the 70s, i wanted Leeds to win, we were in the shed end when Leeds scored, i cheered, stunned faces all around me, followed by a chant of " your gonna get your ****ing head kicked in" my brother said if Leeds score again and you cheer im gonna beat your head in,at least that way 1 of us will survive. must say i was about 12 at the time.. lol
I was in the north stand for saints vs gooners with my mate who is a man u fan. when saints scored we both jumped up then sat the **** down quickly with 15000 pairs of eyes glaring at us. would say elland road is a tad more iffy than goonersville so good luck and pack an extra pair of boxers
Sat with the QPR fans at Loftus Road a few years back, when we won 2-0 with late goals from Rasiak and Wright-Phillips. That was pretty intimidating.
Sat in Walsall end last year at ours and found it rather frustrating until the end when I jumped over the netting to join all the other Saints fans. The joy of seeing my team win got me through but not being able to sing and kind of hiding my head when someone in Northam noticed me also helped
I also sat in with united fans at old Trafford when we lost 5-0. We got a corner at five down and I jumped up and cheered - the manure fans around me gave me a round of applause
