Asking who though? It's tapping up without a bid accepted. Unless Donny are letting him talk to people before they bid? The Sharp stuff I can believe, but the Hooper/Rhodes bit makes me doubtful.
Sometimes I think Saints try and be too clever by half. If you try and juggle too many balls you drop all of them.
Go and try it Fran.... I bet you keep hold of one. Then try it again and make one of the balls a delicate glass one that you really like. I wonder which one you'll end up holding?
I don't know. Just what I was told. Sure many clubs would have made an enquiry via the club as to if it is worth making a bid.
If I had my way - and assuming all of this is true - I'd forget about Hooper and Rhodes immediately, and take Sharp. Even putting my huge admiration for Sharp to one-side, it's essential that we sign a top striker in the next seven days if we're to have any chance of top two. And as Fran alludes to, there's a risk that we might get it all wrong and end up with no top striker at all.
I sort of agree. My issue with Sharp is that he will add goals and get us promoted. I'm just not convinced he'll make it in the prem. He fits into that catagory of player who is very good in one league but not at the next one up.
That may or may not turn out to be the case, we just don't know. But this release clause of his - apparently £1.85m - makes it an alsmost no-lose situation for us. Not only would firing us to promotion more than pay off that amount, but we shouldn't find it too hard to recoup that money should we sell him on having discovered that he can't score in the Premiership (something which would unlikely to be the case with Hooper or Rhodes, considering their vastly bigger price tags - Hooper in particular, we'd almost certainly make a net loss on)
exactly, Sharp has never played in the prem so nobody knows how he will do, and have to say, if he helps fire us there, he has done half his job already!!! Lets get there first before worrying about what to do once we are there. Remember when Leeds came up early 90's, as soona s came up bombed out vinnie jones etc.. and replaced with top flight quality, sometimes horses for courses.
I agree. It is interesting how people think players will not make it in the Premier League. I am sure there were doubters who thought someone like Grant Holt would not cut it at the next level. It is also a bit similar to those who thought Rickie would not cut it at Championship level. I say sign Sharp and if we get to the Premiership give him a go. If he isn't up to it at least we would be IN the Premier League and we could always look for another addition/option.
I'm with fatletiss on this one, he doesn't look like a premiership player does he? A bit short and chubby. That could be unfair of course, but if I had to choose which one of him, Rhodes and Hooper would make it in the premier league, I wouldn't pick him. No doubt he would score goals in the championship, I do wonder about his all-round game though.
I cant see sharp happening for some reason however, for me hes the striker I want us to sign most out of all those who have been linked. He's performing superbly this season dispite unimaginable personal problems and playing for a poor team. I probably respect him more than almost any other player but even without that hes a great player without a big price tag.
He is without doubt a fine man and would be a great addition to the dressing room. You just know that he would give his all and always remain professional. Let's hope we go all out and sign him up.
