apparently we are after some lad playing in germany, striker, hes called Papiss Demba Cisse, though its quoting 10mill, so probably not true ashley would never shell that much out on 1 player

Just read a report 'suggesting' QPR would be prepared to up Nedum Onuoha's City pay to get him .. he's on something like £60K a week apparently, with QPR not batting an eyelid at £80K ... :emoticon-0159-music 'There may be trouble ahead ..."

[Only mentioning because a few folk have said he'd be a good covering player for the back four]

Barton's on 80k too, surely they can't afford it, unless Fernandes has made a big sponsorship deal with Air Asia.

Yeah .. not sure of his background, but he seems a little naive if he thinks splurging tons of cash will guarantee him EPL status .. and as sure as sure can be, Hughes will spend it if offered, and players will take it with little regard for the club long term ..

NEWCASTLE UNITED have run the rule over Portsmouth goalkeeper Stephen Henderson.

The Chronicle understands that United despatched one of their men to Pompey’s Fratton Park to check out Henderson during their 1-0 home loss to West Ham United on the south coast last weekend.

Henderson may have ended up on the losing side but still pulled off several key stops in the game, however he was narrowly beaten by a Mark Noble penalty.

With Pompey still in administration after going into financial meltdown since relegation from the Premier League in 2010, the Fratton Park club are not in a position to turn down cash bids for their players.

And the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international could be available for a knockdown fee.

Swansea City director John van Zweden had claimed that Newcastle were “interested” in their Holland international keeper Michel Vorm, but a move for the 28-year-old was swiftly played down by sources at United.

Tim Krul is very much regarded as the Magpies’ No 1 this season, of course, but his outstanding form between the sticks has not gone unnoticed on the football circuit with Tottenham credited with interest in recent months.

United have Steve Harper and Rob Elliot as back-up to Krul, but their forward-thinking strategy in the transfer market means that their recruitment policy is always work in progress, hence the watching brief for Henderson.

Twenty-three-year-old Henderson – who stands at 6ft 4in – joined Pompey from Bristol City last summer after admitting his “frustration” at failing to get beyond former England stopper and Robins number 1 David James at Ashton Gate.

The Dubliner, still just 23, fits in with United’s outlook on the modern transfer market.

Henderson started his career with Aston Villa as a trainee before joining Bristol City in 2007.

The former Eire schoolboy international also had stints on loan at York City, Weymouth, Aldershot Town and Yeovil Town before finally quitting Bristol City to join Portsmouth last summer.

He has made 18 appearances for Pompey this term keeping five clean sheets for Michael Appleton’s struggling side.

Montpellier midfielder Younes Belhanda watched by Newcastle (mirror) - been linked with him in the past might not be this lad as we have been linked with Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Olivier Giroud my money would be on Mbiwa if we were watching anyone from montpellier

Ajax Will Sell Newcastle Target Jan Vertonghen This Summer

One of the players Newcastle will bring in over the summer is a top center-back.

Jan Vertonghen – will be sold in the summer
One of the players Newcastle have been interested in is 24 year-old Jan Vertonghen of Ajax, although the £10M fee that was mentioned is a little high.

Jan has only 18 months left on his contract, and the Ajax manager Frank de Boer has said today that they will need to sell him in the summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal.

But the fee will not be £10M with only one year left on his contract, but it seems that Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United may also be interested in the 6’3″ Belgium International.

This is what Frank told Eredivisie Live:

“We know that his contract expires in 2013, “So it’s either renew or relocate to a good foreign club, where Ajax would also benefit from a transfer fee.”

“We already told Jan last year in Turkey that we are keen to hold on to him. We will open talks early in March to discuss a new deal.”

Heard we could be after Yohan Benalouane on loan now. Wouldn't mind that tbh, a loan is probably best since Vertonghen and Douglas are purely summer targets.

Bollocks. We'll never pay £4m for Morrison.

i agree we'd more than likely get him for around 2m we might not even pay a penny (except for a few 100k compen) as he can talk to any club and sign a pre contract agreement and join in the summer on a free.he's fell out with fergie the only downside is his troubles if he put them aside and knuckled down from what i've heard he's a future star but it'll come to nothing if he doesn't ditch the attitude

So basically another One Size? Fair do's.
to other rumours: We won't pay more than 2m for Morrison. The fact Pardew was unaware of it suggests it would have been an Elliot signing; i.e. the opportunity to get a player for that little money represented too good an opportunity for Derek. Pay too much and you undo that balance.
Zaha I wouldn't be surprised if we got in the summer. He looked very, VERY good against Cardiff last night.
