twins, we're not saying that only 'regular' posters can be considered - it's just that the output mainly comes from a core of around that many (call them the 'Premier League Squad' if you like) but there are plenty of Hulse's and ****tu's for every Buszaky and Gabbidon. We even have a Dyer or two, I think. We do need to think about how this will work though. There are two options: either the panel decides on the winners, or there are monthly polls. If the panel determine the winners, then we probably need five people on the panel to make sure that no single person's opinions are too strong and sway the board. Five should be enough to get a fair result most of the time. Polls are different. Basically, we would need enough people on the panel to gain a consensus on maybe five entries in each category, and then a poll for each one, each month, that runs for maybe three days. In this case, three people should probably be enough, because they are not picking the winner, just the candidates. The problem with having too few on the panel is that there's often a lot of stuff to read, and things can get missed of there's only one or two people needing to read and judge every post.
I'd keep it as simple as pos, along the lines of goal of the month and manger of the month, but in our case Post of the month (Post has to be on our our board but by anybody) and QPR 606 member of the month. Have a panel of judges if you wish to decide on the best 5 posts and then maybe post them as a poll and let the members decide the winning post. Nominations could be sent by PM by anyone to the judges or selected by the judges themselves. (You cant nominate yourself) QPR 606 member of the month nominations could be sent in the same way to the judges to develop a shortlist of 3 and then i thought maybe Brix and Goldi might like to select the winner from the shortlist of 3? At the end of the season we should then have a shortlist of monthly winners from which to select Post of the season and QPR 606 Member of the year! Winners of Monthly and season awards can then add the accolade to their signatures.
Thats not what i was implying at all. I would also think that anybody (including non QPR) that posts here should be included. Take "District Line" for example, he normally makes a decent contribution on this board and comes here to discuss/argue valid points. We may have lots of members on this board but on an average day, usually the same 20-30 people consistently post. Just thought that 5 members on the "panel" was too much.
As a consolidation of the above posts (and a few views of my own) 1. I echo Brix in that it's better to keep mods out - Someone needs to run with the project (possibly with another to assist) to set it up and is therefore "Creator" (sorry for the religious undertone) (Valanciennes would be my choice if he's agreeable). 2.Categories to be kept simple - best thread, best post, best member of the month. If members want to add more categories, the Creator can decide once it's up and running. 3. Panel - three people voted in (ie on a one off basis) by members - they don't need to stand for this election - the Creator can just go down the members' preference list from the top and pick the first 3 that agree to serve on the panel (no mods, but could include the Creator) 4. PM's with nominations sent by members (incl mods) to panel members by the end of each calendar month 3. Nomination - Panel selects 5 of each category and puts out a poll on each of the three categories for members to vote on Special notes (a) cannot vote for yourself - if there's a conflict on the panel, the Creator nominates a stand in just for that conflicted vote. If the conflict involves the Creator, then the other 2 panel members jointly appoint a third panel member for that conflicted vote (b) no negative categories in the future The first step would to be to appoint a Creator to run with the project. Thoughts?
Oh I loved The Religious Undertones. Teenage Prayers was my favorite, although My Perfect Cassock was pretty good......
I have always hated Oscars, Grammy's (or are they Granny's?!)and all those other pat each other on the back, so clever are we, jamborees stuff. So I have not been exactly jumping up and down in excitement about this idea. But if we don't want to read it we don't have to! I can't see any reason why we shouldn't do it if posters want to run it, and have fun with it.
No one will seek an acceptance speech from you if you win, Oslo, promise! No room for Gwyneth Paltrow's on this site...
