NEWCASTLE boss Alan Pardew was blasted last night for offering pocket money to sign Watford defender Adrian Mariappa.
Hornets boss Sean Dyche laughed off an opening bid of £750,000 from the Premier League giants as a joke.
Starsport understands Newcastle have since had an improved bid of £2m rejected by the Championship club.

Watford feel Mariappa, 25, is worth TEN TIMES what Newcastle initially bid for a player who has 18 months left on his contract.
Dyche – whose side face Tottenham in the FA Cup on Friday – said: “A bid has been made but it is nowhere near our valuation.
My son’s got as much in his money box to buy him.

Unfortunately you often get clubs offering nowhere near the valuation of players. They have their reasons.
But we are not in a position where we have to rush out and sell anymore
Clubs use agents to make it more uncomfortable than it needs to be.

If clubs at our level are helping to develop players then the big clubs with the big money should respect that.

    From the Daily Star

Either we undervalue this guy, or he's just not that good and would just be a back up for a back up.

I wonder how much we have actually offered, maybe the same amount Mike Williamson came for.

This Watford manager gets paid too much if his son has between £750,000 and £2,000,000 in pocket money.

The player isn't worth any more than £2 million at all.

We can get better value and quality abroad.

I actually quite rate the player but I wouldn't pay more than £2m for him. Certainly wouldn't pay anyway near Dyche's valuation.

Didn't Dyche say his kid has more money in his piggy bank? How much pocket money is the kid getting?

Even if we offered £750,000 i seriously can't imagine us offering anywhere near the sum they want.

Of course unless we offered £250,000 then i could maybe see his point.

at least he didn't commit the cardinal sin of calling the bid 'derisory' i swear it boils my piss when they drop that old chestnut because they're trying to rinse an extra million quid out of someone. nothing offered for a footballer is derisory. it might not meet the clubs valuation but derisory is something different althogether.

it became a bit of a buzz word in recent years. and you just know that some of the people saying it haven't a clue what its true definition is.

and taking under performing defenders off them. i'll reserve judgement until ive seen him in action but a team that are struggling in the championship obviously have a porous defence. I can only hope that its like samba at blackburn. undoubtedly a good defender but the rest of the team around him is ****e.

    In other news......

Turkish ace Mevlut Erding has confirmed he rejected offers to leave France in order to sign with Rennes.

The 24-year-old striker was a target of Newcastle last summer, but he decided to stay and fight for his place at Paris Saint Germain.
He has now opted to leave Parc Des Princes and has finalised a deal with Rennes on a three-and-half-year deal.

Erding revealed he had rejected offers, with French sources claiming he snubbed loan bids from Fulham, Sunderland and Galatasaray.

He told L'Equipe: "I am released. I am joining an ambitious club that improves every year.

"I had offers from abroad, where I could have earned much more money, but I favoured the sporting aspect.

"It is a long time ago since I have been in the starting XI in my club, and I want to play and score, that's all."
