Great signing. I thought the LB position was the least of our worries given we already have Traore but really hope MH has plans to play them both.
Guys, just a quick question or two!!! Can this guy defend? We are a prem club involved in a relegation battle who already have a predominately second rate defence. Our current set of defenders are not good enough to keep us in this division. Let's be honest, very few of us have even heard of this guy. The videos are great. What a left foot!!! But, can he defend? Remember, we already have a LB who loves going forward but is dodgy defending. These videos do not show him putting in bone crunching tackles. Thats how i like my defenders to play. I bet you i could put a video together of Hulses few goals and make him look like world class. People are getting carried away because he has a great shot. Wow. He's a bucking defender and none of us knows for sure if he can defend!!!! Is he what we need now? Considering we basically have a Champ team, should we not be strengthing in other areas. I never expected several new players to arrive in Jan, but i think we have 2 positions that need urgent filling: A top class CB: We are still playing FH in the Prem. That should say it all. Regardless of whatever else happens in the transfer window, we MUST sign a new CB. IMHO our current set of CBs will not keep us up. Top priority. Spend big here. CM: With Ali injured it leaves us light in the middle. No wonder we are linked to Pienaar and Kranjcar, two creative midfielders who like to get forward. Derry is too old and slow. He is ok for the odd 20mins but thats about it. Sadly, he is also just not good enough for this level. Barton has been average at best and not the box to box midfielder i thought he was. Buz has had one good game. He has not played in the best part of 2 years. It would be foolish to place all our hopes on a player that has always been considered as a good squad player. Don't loose the run of yourselves because he had one good game. I don't think we absolutely need a new stricker. Bootsy and DJ are adequate for a club of our size at the moment. So many people on this site talk about us needing to buy a 20 goal a year stricker. I laugh at this. It is really naive. How many 20 goals a year strickers are there in the Prem? or in world football? The reality is that there are prob 3-4 top strickers in this division who can consistently score 20 goals a season and they are all with the top top clubs. We will never be able to afford one of these players and they would not come to us anyway. The only exception to this is Darren Bent. he has scored consistently at every club he has played for. But could we afford the 15million to buy him? The best we can hope for is a stricker who can score 10-12 goals a season. Guess what, we already have him. DJ is the man. he has been injured and has not had a run of games. The vast majority of the forwards we have been linked with are no better than DJ. He deserves a run of 10 odd games to prove himself. Be realistic and please no more rubbish talk about 20 goals a year forwards.
CB: I sort of agree, we could use an extra cover, who can play both right and left side. I wonder what's happened to Danny Shi_tu? CM: I think we're OK, we'll get Tarbs back and as long as they can keep control of Joey, I don't think we need another, Buz looks like he's raring to go and Derry is always there for cover. Of course health and age are important, but we wouldn't want to disrupt Joey any more with another midfielder to get in his way I think we need a better Winger on the left. If Ephraim can step up as he thinks he can, that's one. I don't know if he wants to play on the left. We have SWP on the other. And I think we need another as cover. But they should be versatile enough to switch wings. Striker: We also have HH, who's been great, but we do really need another Striker who can literally score, and not just hold up the ball. We need somebody who can just hog the space in front of goal and get good shots in every match. If DJ can figure it out, but can we wait? HH can't be our only target man - Bothroyd and Mackie need to step up, and not just be half-way hold-up boys. Hopefully MH can figure out a better formation for these lads other than what we've seen so far. I really would like him to play 4-3-1-2 and Tarbs behind the two strikers and in front of Buz. That's the ideal. But with Joey as captain, he'll be there instead? I think Tarbs should be made captain and start with Buz and either Joey or Derry coming on for him when Buz looks tired. With 4-4-2, we'll still stuck wondering where we would Tarbs, if Joey and Buz have to be the mid-2. I know MH's got a tough decision every match, but we do need a strong goal-scorer in the same vein as what HH has been able to do this season.
But the left Wing position is a problem, we cant keep playing SWP there so when Traore come back he should be playing in that position with Taye Taiwo as a left back.
