Having watched Southampton last night on my computerI realised how much they were missing Lambert they looked a very poor team completely toothless infront of goal giving Schmichel nothing to do .At right back they had Harding who had a nightmare must have thought he was playing for Leeds Unless he gets a forward to to assist Lambert they will bel ucky to get automatic promotion on last nights showing. I watched Wellens intentally and thought he was no better than what we have already .Beckford will be leaving this window if they can get rid of him ,he just went through the motion again but I was impressed with his partner Nugent who worked his socks off .
I then started thinking its no coincidence that Norwich got promotion because they had a big centre forward in Grant Holt who is similar to Lambert .They have both come from the lower leagues and have done very well ,both over 6 feet and strong . I then looked at when they both played in the same league Lambert scored 30 goals Holt scored 24 and another 6 footer scored 26 our Billy . So if we can somehow get the lad confidence why can,t he be just as successful take him to a shrink ,cuddle him, try anything ,failing this give him to Danny Wilson to sort out. If you see wher I,m coming from Paynter could be the difference we need if only he could regain his confidence

He seems to be getting there, scored against Ipswich and apparently was better than before.

Not good enough. Is on occasion but i feel the reason he scored so many last year was because of the amount of chances we created.

Its not the goals that you look for in a big centre forward anyway, thats an extra but it definitely is not the primary attribute.

And I dont think Paynter is good enough by the way

so stats tell the whole story?

I do not judge players on the stats they have, stats are very deceiving.

I've already gone through why I dont like Becchio so I wont again but I do think we should be looking at a striker of sorts

Becchio was awesome when he came on against Ipswich, was great to see. Seemed to have regained confidence, played as if he had a point to prove.

You also feel the team needs Keough and that stats regarding the team not scoring in the last ten games he played in while he was on the pitch as okay? http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/115919-Crystal-Palace-vs-Leeds?p=2083830&viewfull=1#post2083830 Stats might be deceiving but when you are a striker there is only one stat that really matters - goals.

as i have said before. I disagree. I can't be bothered to keep sending every thread that involves me back into same arguments regarding keogh or bates.

As already said in this thread, a big strong centre forward is very vital to a good team, particularly at this level. This is what we need to get out of this division, whether that be Becchio (but he has to be on form, of which regardless of ipswich he is not on form) or a new signing and i'd definitely prefer a new signing because becchio certainly is not good enough for the prem by any stretch of the imagination and if thats where we want to be, we need to start signing players who are good enough for the prem

Never mind quality strikers, how about signing a quality defender or two? Scoring goals isn't exactly a problem, conceding them is.
Besides, I've got the utmost respect for Becchio, at least he signed a new contract & actually wants to pull on the famous white shirt.

How about Andy Carroll. Be careful what you wish for, I'd say the Liverpool fans are fairly sick of the sight of him

A player comes off the bench, sets up one goal and scores another, you are hard to please Josh or is this your brother replying?
