(apologies if this thread has previously existed)

We need a striker, that's obvious. But now Henrique deal seems to be off, who would you like to see us sign? Names such as Johnson, Zamora, Jelavic, Hooper, Santa Cruz, Defoe (lol) etc etc have been mentioned but who do you think would want to come to us? who do you think we can afford? and who do you think MH wants???

It all comes down to money.Top strikers cost way more than were going to pay.I'm sure given the choice Hughes would like someone like Bent, but realistically i think we might persue Zamora.I certainly wouldn't want a striker from the SPL,they may score goals for fun up there but they never do in our Premier league.I would much prefer we took a chance on someone like Jordan Rhodes,a young hungry goalscorer who can only improve, but i won't hold my breath!

If we could get Jordan Rhodes, that would be nice IMO, i can't really comment as i'm not too sure what Hughes' ambitions are etc

edit: Person above me mentioned Hooper at the same time <laugh>

Well as we haven't used much cash yet January, Messi maybe, or Persie if we are going in on the cautious side! But more seriously I'd love Defoe. Ok so he won't come, Bent maybe.

As that brazilian kid is not coming to us and others very shy to join us, why not try Maynard, Rodriguez, Rhodes or Zaha?

The above responses indicate what we all know - there aren't many strikers out there who would really make a difference to us and who would realistically come and play for us!!

The player who would be amazing but for obvious reasons won't ever come to us on loan would be Lukaku across the road.

I tend to agree that we may not be able to sign anyone decent. Our league position isn't attractive plus we don't seem to be willing to pay the price for a proven premiership goal scorer :/

Would anyone else like to see Jamie Mackie played as a striker?? He is strong, he's a good finisher and when it comes to enthusiasm and hunger not many players come close!!

I hope Hughes can produce some magic but it may just be a bargain basement last minute job again. Let's hope he unearths a diamond in the rough!

Oslo, he may have only got 2 goals this season, but realistically they were both striker's finishes. Especially the one against Swansea him gambling off the kick. I would have thought he'd be more effective up there than a lacklustre DJ Campbell. I'd like to see him given a shot up there when Traore returns. At least then we could have Wright Phillips on the right and Traore on the left.

I agree Tarbs would be a better option, but at least we will actually have options and competition in positions. Will hopefully get the best out of our players that we have, which is precisely why Sunderland are now flying
