Shouldn't we be grateful that our team is ambitious and no longer seems to be in a financial mess rather than berating the management that we have not signed a vista of players. I suspect like Arsenal and Man U, with the like of Chelsea and Man C's spending power about it is difficult to capture the players that you want and I suspect in a tough market it is hard to get players at the right price. Plus remember January signings are often flops, look at Torres and Carrol.
I'm still amazed by the naivity shown by some posters. Comments like we haven't signed enough, or we haven't had enough activity, make me laugh. The club have their targets and they might not even be available (Hooper?). Have some bleedin faith. Last night was bad, but we've played 27 games and are second (albeit not performing well), but with a fully fit squad and a couple of editions, we'll be ok. Even if we blew it and finished 7th, I'd say it was a good season. We have 4 or 5 very tough games ahead which may leave us a little adrift, but then we can kick on to the end of the season and hope that we go up or finish in the play-offs. We have no devine right to be where we are, or finish where we are.
Apologies for the head slap. But you would have to agree to an extent. Should we fail to gain promotion be it auto or playoffs. After the season we have had, it would be seen as failure.
It depends how you view things, short or medium term. I felt in the summer, that with the depth of our squad, we would do well to finish as high as 8th. I have loved the run we are on, and yes, being top two gives you a chance to push on. I hope we do. But, if we end up missing out, I won't see it as failure - if you do, would you sack Adkins? We have come straight up and started really well, but over a 46 game season, your abilities and squad strength will show through. Our best 11 can take anyone on; our overall squad is okay, but if weakened by loss of the key players, the squad doesn't stand up. I want us to go up, but will look back if we don't and say "what a fantastic journey that has been". Failure -no. And also, we should really say "after the half season we have had". There is a long way to go.
For you maybe, not for me. As I've said elsewhere on here this evening, I would still be delighted with a 6 placed finish. That wouldn't be a failure in my eyes, nor would losing in the semi's. Any way, we're going slightly off topic here. This is the rumour thread aftet all.
Agree with the majority of your points. No, I wouldn't sack Adkins as he got us promoted and has kept us in the championship (pretty much). I think what I'm saying is if we don't go up or at least make the playoffs, I don't think that would acceptable given our position we find our selves in now after the start the season we have had. Especially with us having the opportunity to really strengthen the squad.
I do understand, but it's about managing expectations. My hopes may have change a lot becasue of the position we are in, but I didn't expect us to be top two or even in the play-offs at this stage. The season ends in April (or May if it's play-offs), and then we have to look back and evaluate the season. If we were top with 4 games to play and won none of them and blew it, I think we should ask some tough questions, but we must relax and give the players a chance to peform without heightened expactations. It is natural to get where we are and want to stay there, but we can't consider it a failure this early if at the end we don't go up.
Sorry for absence. noone was allowed near boardroom all afternoon strictly off limits. Chairman meetings was the reason. Naturally ud think it was transfer related.
We should spend a but if money on maybe 3 players but not be held to ransom. We just need to increase the squad to give us more options!
