    The Marussia F1 team has revised its pre-season plans and will not attend the first test at Jerez in order to concentrate on the development of the new car.

    The team was expected to run last year's car in the opening test on February 7-10 to give new driver Charles Pic some track time ahead of his grand prix debut this year. Team consultant Pat Symonds told AUTOSPORT last week that the outfit was aiming to have its new car ready for the second test at Barcelona.

    Marussia, however, has now decided to skip the first test altogether and is now aiming to run the new MR01 in the third test at Barcelona on 1 March. The team will use last year's car in the second test, also at Barcelona, when it will kick off its on-track preparations. Team boss John Booth believes the extra time to work on the new car will allow Marussia to be better prepared when it hits the track.

    Unless they have severe financial problems I cannot see any reason to skip a test entirely. ?_?

    Well they were only aiming to run the old car anyway, and they aren't the only ones- Mercedes also won't be at test 1.

    Running the old car can have some benefit though, certainly you can run it in interim trim, get more tyre data, etc...
    But skipping it entirely? How can forgoing track time possibly be a good thing?

    The only other reason is that they have something quite massive lurking in development, and want to delay it being revealed to the world.

    el_b, ninja just said he's doing pirelli testing... does he now have a possible drive? btw, which seats are actually uncomfirmed and free as of now?
