booing the team? you obviously haven't got a clue. Go back to your X-box and leave footie to those who know.
As The Magic man predicted... Any booing from your supporters targeted at your own team affects the players in a bad way. It does not matter what was the reason - was it Eboue, or a substitution, or Wenger, or a bad miss, whatever. It affects the team in a bad way and shows lack of belief from supporters. Effectively that booing said - " You took off a good player and brought in a hopeless one". What do you think the footballers think?? They think - "Oh hell, they are really frustrated.. poor Andrei...what if I miss - will they boo again? THEY DO NOT BELIEVE WE CAN WIN NOW" Nice support from the .. emm.. supporters. X-Box, you said?
I can only talk about what happened, you can't make an argument based on "ifs" and "ands". If RVP scored, if Walcott wasn't pants, if ... if .... We were on top, OXO was gripping the game by the scruff of the neck, he showed no signs of fatigue to the 60,000 fans in the stadium or the millions of viewers on TV. Wenger made the change and the tide changed .. and we lost. You can "if" and "and" all you want. We were NOT losing when the change was made and we were on top.
I could argue that Djourou being on the pitch prevented an invasion of Belgium, but that would be just as stupid as your comment
Utter sensationalist bollox ! Fans boo ... fans cheer. Football is like no other sport in the world, no other sport commands such emotion from it's fans. Fans have always abused players from the terraces, I've sat next to enough old boys at football matches and seen and heard the abuse they hurl at their own players to know that !!
I think you'll find whether Wenger leaves will very much hang on whether he has the fans' support, he's said as much before. Booing might not be the most constructive way of communicating with the manager and team but equally sitting in silence whilst you pay [one of] the highest ticket prices in the league for a team that are as close to 19th as they are to 1st, is not going to change anything. Fans have very little control of their club these days, despite being the whole reason the clubs exist in the first place. Hoping to get a question in at the AGM isn't going to be enough for most fans so they really have little choice but to make their opinion known at the time, at the games.
Do you know what? This is my biggest fear, that Wenger will simply say 'Enough is enough' and walk away from the job. It's my opinion that Wenger is and remains to be the best thing that has happened to our club. What he does for our club with our resources is nothing short of miraculous. I know people are frustrated, but taking it out on Wenger is totally misdirected in my opinion.
I certainly think you need something to make some big changes and if Wenger doesn't then he has to be one of the changes.
The thing is, look at the last AGM. They censored the questions, cut short the question and answer session and didn't answer some questions. That shows little to no regard to us fans. PISKIE you say the fans shouldn't boo and should be behind the manager, well in the very forum they had to voice their opinions they were cut off, so what else can we do ??
I don't buy into the argument that we need a revolution at our club. I think there are areas for improvement, but we are not that far off. I think we suffer from the comparison of our double winning and invincible teams, but times have changed. We went through a massive change with the break up of that team and our move to Emirates and the subsequent financial constraints that came with it. Basically the club said then that we would have to change the way we worked, we were warned then that there would be no big name signings and that we would have to develop young players and find solutions from within the club. The fact that Wenger has kept us in the Champions League every season and kept us in contention for every major honour every season in that time (coming close to winning a couple of times) is nothing short of miraculous. When I look around us at the clubs that have spent inordinate amounts of cash, changed their managers at the drop of a hat and still don't have any more than us to show for it. It makes me realise just how important Wenger is to Arsenal.
If we go down that route then no one should ever be held accountable ever. May as well get rid of the justice system as well because people who commit crimes are acting to prevent something worse happening.
I think you need to have a look at what the teams spending "inordinate amounts of cash", have actually won since you go the Emirates. There are surely big changes that need to be made, it's time for the club to stop worrying about their debts and loosen the purse strings and put a team together to compete, not slowly disintergrate as players tire of the stagnation. You also need someone in to sort out the defence, Wenger always spends on it but the same problems keep occuring but Wenger won't blame his coaches.
I do believe at the time Wenger didnt have a scooby. Yet when the team is playing, get behind the team. The booing was appauling.
No we don't need a new revolution but we do need fresh ideas. And we need to not keep on making the same mistakes. After seeing Wenger being unable to do this for a number of years now I think this means we need a new manager.
The fact is that the so-called fans trash Arshavin for not having confidence and not playing his best, and then in an absolutely vital period where his contribution is the difference between us getting a point and getting none, they boo him coming onto the field. And then when he makes a mistake afterwards, the same fans say "See? We were right, he's ****", without thinking that maybe booing your own f*cking player might have a negative impact on him. Whatever happened on the field, those fans actively worked against the team they're supposed to be there to support in a manner which could very well have been a factor in us losing that game. They're scum.
When a player usually plays absolutely appallingly for over a year and almost always can't be bothered to do any defensive work do they deserve to have the fans on their side? If they had continually booed him throughout the game then I would disagree with it but all they showed disapproval towards was the decision to take of our best player and replace him with an far inferior one. And frankly I don't see why that is a problem.
