ALLY McCOIST has made his first "signings" as he prepares to take over as Rangers boss at the end of this season.

McCoist, who will replace Walter Smith in May, has recruited two former 9 in a row team mates as he makes his preparations to become the 13th man to manage the club.

John BrownNeil Murray has been appointed Head Scout and has been charged with sourcing new players for Rangers.

Right now he is reporting to Walter Smith but with the next window not opening until the summer then, by definition, he is looking for talent for McCoist.

And he has been joined by John Brown who is re-joining the club five years after leaving a major role in the Youth Department.

Bomber has been brought on board to help in the search for players and this is something he has done before.

The former defender was the man responsible for encouraging Rangers to sign Carlos Cuellar from Osasuna and it turned out to be a terrific piece of business.

Cuellar was an excellent player for Rangers but only played one season - 2007/08 - before he invoked a clause in his contract and was sold to Aston Villa for €8 million.

Murray came through the ranks at Rangers and played a significant role in the 1992/93 Treble campaign.

He played 16 league games that season to earn a championship medal and he also scored in the Scottish Cup Final - albeit with the aid of a deflection - when Rangers beat Aberdeen 2-1 to sweep the boards.

He won title medals in 1993/94 and 1994/95 but fell out of the plans after that and then went on his travels firstly playing in Switzerland with Sion and then in France with Lorient.

He also had spells with Dundee United and Grimsby Town before finishing his playing career with Ayr United.

Neil, a qualified accountant, then moved into sports management and had built up a stable of players.

Now, however, he has been given a key role in the recruitment of new players at Rangers.

Things must really be desperate if Rangers need an accountant to identify new players.

Another negative post by DevAdvocate Neil Murray played in France, Switzerland and Germany after leaving us, and does seem to have good knowledge of European football, especially the Bundesliga, I think this is a good appointment

One ex thug and a player who nobody remembers. Two fine additions to the coaching staff i'm sure.

That's true but it could just be that they don't want to be reminded of that particular incident.

He will soon remedy that by belting out more party tunes on a ghetto blaster.
