I frequent a couple of different forums and I regularly see people calling for the Human Rights Act to be abolished. Why?

Do people really want to see what it would be like to live in a country without a Human Rights Act and what the government could get away with?

It seems to me that when someone else's head is in the noose the Human Rights Act is prohibitive and should be abolished but if it were themselves they would fight tooth and nail for their Human Rights.

We can't have it both ways people, Human Rights either applies to everyone or it applies to no one, we can't pick and choose.

Everybody is automatically entitled to human rights. Someone who violates the human rights of another automatically loses their own.

    That would work.

Have you noticed much difference in the UK since the HRA came in?

That's the only thing the likes of the Daily Fail and The Sun report on and they completely ignore the good work done by Human Right groups.

You will need the Human Rights Act eventually.

When the UK breaks up and the people of England decide not to apply to join the EU, we will not be under the jurisdiction of the European Court of Human Rights. We can then draw up our own Human Rights laws and do away with things like "Right to a Family Life" for convicted serial rapists who we'd otherwise deport.

You can't pick and choose what rights should be given to what people. If you give one person a right but not another it defeats the purpose of Human Rights.

We also need to have a Human Responsibilities Act, whereby any parent failing to do their utmost to bring their sprogs up properly, gets automatically sterilised to prevent them from ****ing up another kids life

Prevention is better than cure, sterilise them BEFORE they breed.

Then there should be a test to determine whether some specimens are actually human. Some of the Jeremy Kyle types would fail it and can hence be stripped of their Human Rights <ok>

Human rights do not apply in North Lanarkshire for obvious reasons though
