Looks like Maynard may well be off to Wigan, well they're in talks at least. Personally not bothered we didn't sign him as I think there are many better strikers in the lower leagues than him and he would not improve our squad greatly. People bothered we missed out on him?
Nope I want Rhodes instead, ship out Chris Martin and Wilbraham as a sweetener for the deal, but not before Chris hopefully gets a Carling Cup final medal, maybe the winners one
I agree Rhodes is the hot property of the lower leagues. While he scores plenty of goals we have seen players such as Beckford do the same at that level and fail to make the step up. However from what I have seen he has more to his game and he is still young. If Huddersfield dont make it up this year he would surely be very obtainable. I also like Rodriguez at Burnley who I feel could definitely be a useful addition.
I believe we have already made an inquiry for Rodriguez but don't know what come of it ie what Burnley are asking for! Maybe we may see us make a move for him but I reckon if we get howson we may get a loan in but that may be it!
i don't think we need Maynard - surprised by Wigan though as i thought WBA and others were interested.
Just believe that we need to get a striker for the future and rather than buy an established PL one, we should invest Goalkeepers (Ruddy 25, Rudd 21) Defence (Naughton on-loan atm 23, Ayala 21, Ward 26, Tierney 26, Whitbread 27, Ward 26, Martin 26, Barnett 26) Midfield (Pilkington 23, Bennett 21, Johnson 24, Surman 25, Crofts 27, Fox 28, Hoolahan 29, Howson ???) Forward (Holt 30, Morrison 28, Vaughan 23, Jackson 24) [Green = not a concern, Red = cause for concern either age or ability at PL level) --- Bloody young squad only one 30 year old (discounting Drury and Wilbraham)
Why would a player who wants premier league football join Wigan. Surely wait until the summer and see what options are available. Would annoy Bristol city I suppose as they want some money from the sale
Obviously the lad has no real ambition, joining a club where the town only really cares about Rugby League !
I wouldn't trust Football Manager (can't believe I'm saying those words!) as I had something very bizarre happen on there recently. Managed to get us to the League Cup Final against Bolton, selected my squad, did all the pre-match chat and then set the match off to run when a split second after kick-off I realised i'd accidentally dragged Grant Holt out of my starting line-up and replaced him with Declan Rudd up front Before I had the chance to quickly sub him off he only went and opened the scoring after 4 minutes so I thought I'd leave him on until the interval, by which time he'd competed his hat-trick putting us 3-0. Brought Holty on at half-time and we only ended up winning 3-1 in the end. Is Lambo possibly missing out on a trick here?
Don't think we need a new striker before the summer. No point paying January prices, when we are scoring with ease and have vaughn coming back soon. That said if either were brought in I wouldn't be disappointed.
I can't see Rhodes being affordable, not for a player yet to prove himself in Championship football. Rodriguez, maybe, have to wait and see. As for Maynard, he's going to be a sound bit of business for whoever signs him. He'll score goals in the Championship for sure, and he's definitely worth more than any club signing him now will pay. I'd have liked him, but it really depends on who else, if anyone, Lambert has his eye on. We've got enough now, but a little extra quality is always welcome.
I see plenty of mixed views on Maynard when his names mentioned, personally I don't think we'd get value for money.
Agreed, personally really not bothered where he goes, and certainly wouldn't be particularly happy if he joined NCFC. A good journeyman, but not high quality in my view
The problem is that if vaughan was to get injured AGAIN and holt or morison were to get a knock and be out for a month or so i wouldnt be to convinced with just holt/morison, jackson and wilbraham to see us throough that month! I think it is worth getting in one more top notch striker, i really would like to see rodriguez here as he has all the attributes to match lamberts type of player and yes he may cost us 3 or 4 mil but in this month for a top championship striker, is it really that much??? I also like to go back to the ashton transfer. we spent 3 mil on him and a year later sold him for 7.25! surely if we were to go and get rodriguez or whoever and was to do the business then surely its a very good addition for the team plus theres the chance that he will be worth alot more in a year or 2 down the line?
We'd utilise midfielders who can play in attacking midfield roles Wes, Pilkington and Bennett if that situation happens which I hope doesn't. I agree it would affect our game if either Holt or Morison were out as they're a big part of the game plan. Wilbraham is only there as the third big forward but I don't really rate him, Jackson lacks presence but can nick a goal here and there, Vaughan I hope remains fit his player I've looked forward too seeing most this year and the guy has had a lot of bad luck with injuries, but so I have the likes of Van Persie etc.
I'm sure we could recall Chris , but he's not a premier league striker. I was watching the place Cardiff game last night I reckon a punt on Scanell (sp?) would be a great shout, he's got bags of talent and a real lambo player
I watched the match last night and I must say the only player who looked to have anything was Whittingham who strolled through the match. The rest huffed and puffed but that was it I'm afraid. Chris Martin was taken off as usual and he linked play OK but did little else albeit in a team that was under the cosh most of the tie.
