It was reported in yesterdays metro that Baron Dannett, former CDS in the Army believed that a independent Scottish Army would be little more than a local defence force and have little career prospects and fulfilment...

Let's go one further....it would have little pay either...any squaddies remember their Add Pay, overseas pay, education allowances etc?

No scope for it in a local defence force

Dev would be peeling spuds during the day and washing dishes at night just to get by...

I don't see what point you are trying to make and what's "Add pay" and "education allowance"?

We can always count on our casual comrades in Germany and England to help us out.

A small country with no Empire and no Commonwealth doesn't need a big army - just NATO and EU membership.

No more being the world's policeman - just a tiny contributing factor to international forces.

    ****ing suits me <ok>

I wish it had always been thus.

    Did you ever serve?

Put it this way, a non active, home based army that "won't take part in illegal wars" would be hard pressed to find reasons to pay for Special Forces, Parachutists, overseas allowances, boarding schools for their kids if they never crossed a border in anger

    Really....did you ever serve.....in the army....not lunches?

Did I "serve"? No i'm a deluded fantasy merchant who only claims to have served to impress dullwits and ****tards who are impressed by that sort of thing.

What you know about the arrmy could be written on a pinhead, that much is clear.

What do you care if a Scottish Army is formed and what it's make up will be? It will doubtless be part of the UN anyway and as such will do as it is bidden, so no change there. Matters not a jot to me anyhoo.

    I always thought so

It's important, I envisage a huge wage cut for many servicemen. Never mind the argument on who will defend us, who could afford to take their experience to a new armed force....and what of the unemployed veterans?

    They deserve better

You're coming along fine sonny. Soon you will master a well constructed sentence.

Have a gold star - just the one though. Only Dandies are allowed two.

There won't be a huge wage cut but another cull, that will save money. Most squaddies are used to having to make do in ****ty circumstances, because people who can't are not suited to service life anyway.

I doubt we will see a "Scottish Army" in my lifetime even if we do get independence, there is no need for it, and even less sense in it when Scots could simply remain as part of the British Army, same as the Ghurkas, Fijians, Gibraltarians et al.

It's just common sense. ( a resource which seems to be in short supply)
