QPR may force Ferdinand to shake Terry's hand when pair meet in FA Cup clash

Queens Park Rangers officials will hold talks this week aimed at encouraging Anton Ferdinand to shake hands with John Terry before Saturday's FA Cup tie against Chelsea.

The fourth-round clash is expected to bring together the pair for the first time since QPR won a bad-tempered League game between the sides at Loftus Road on October 23.

Terry is facing a criminal trial next week for allegedly racially abusing Ferdinand during the game.

It is FA Cup protocol for both sets of players to shake hands before matches and Rangers want to do their utmost to defuse a potentially explosive encounter.
Chelsea skipper Terry will extend his hand during the pre-game formalities but it is unclear if Ferdinand would reciprocate.

QPR could try to make the decision for him this week. Sportsmail has learned the pre-match handshake is an issue that has been discussed by Loftus Road officials ahead of Saturday's tie.

A decision on whether Ferdinand will be instructed to shake Terry's hand will be made later this week, during discussions which are likely to include the former Sunderland defender.
Wayne Bridge famously rejected Terry's hand in February 2010 after it emerged the England captain had an affair with the left back's former partner Vanessa Perroncel.

The FA are expected to speak to both clubs ahead of Saturday to ensure everything has been done to ensure the game is trouble free. It is understood FA chiefs are keen for the pair to shake hands.

In addition to increased security, both clubs are expected to warn their fans about their behaviour.

I know its the fail but its disgusting if true. Id like to see not only Ferdinand but the whole team refuse to shake his hand.

It would show solidarity and would probably wind them up so much that it could lead to a red card.

Actually while I'm here tonight....all our players should wear the "kick racism out of football" t-shirts when warming up.

Well, shaking his hand would be the Professional thing to do. Anton needs to one-up the situation and take control.

If i'm honest, I hope Anton does the professional thing and shakes Terry's hand.
I also hope that after the match we only have the football to discuss.
QPR need to just focus on the game, we need to focus on building as a team and a club.
    Mes Una Club.
All the peripheral stuff is a diversion from that.

Be forced to shake and (alledged) RACISTS hand AFTER he has hurled racist abuse at you....?

Are you f-ing kidding me..? maybe we should go to southern Texas and shake hands with all those that had part in the lynchings!!!

PERSONALLY wish not a single member of the team gives terry the time of day.....

How would you feel if someone had said that to your son, brother, cousin or even mother..Totally gobsmacked and disgusted if he has too...

I'd rather he feigned injury than have to do that......RANT OVER !!!!..not a happy bunny......

As I said, concentrate on the job in hand.
    Focus on the match.
    Anything else is a distraction.
Shake a hand, dosen't matter whose it is, it's just a formality.
    Blank it out.
It take's less negative energy to shake it than to not.
If I was playing any game, I wouldn't want to shake any hand before a game.
I would look to turn it into a positive in some way.

Just do what Wayne Bridge did and ignore him. While it isn't the done thing,i think that making this game as unpleasant an experience for the whole Chelsea team could well yield a similar result to the one earlier in the Season!

Alright 999 how you doing mate,i honestly believe that this could go two ways.We will either try and kill all the furore about the Terry affair and i think our game will suffer as a consequence, and a beating will no doubt come our way.Or the players and the fans could really get in their faces, give them no time on the ball and just generally upset them. The latter as proven earlier in the season should be the way we go about it.One thing is for sure, this is going to be one tasty encounter!

Shake his hand but don't let go. See how long he can hold on.

Or wear one of these http://www.sillyjokes.co.uk/p-jokes/surprise/hand-buzzer.html

I'm far more concerned about the club upping security in the stands. Our stewards are ****ers at the best of times and if they're given a remit to chuck people out for shouting a bit of abuse it could get nasty in the stands and take some of our much needed home advantage away.

This is assuming they both play! The easiest thing to do would be to bring Anton on as a 1st minute substitute!

What on Earth would that achieve other than only giving us two proper substitutes?

ok...calmed down now...let me just say i am very much against anton shaking JT's hand. Would be a major kick back for the "kick it out campaign"...

    PC enough i hope...

Terry shouldn't be allowed to play and Ferdinand shouldn't be pressurised to do anything he doesn't want to. He's a victim ultimately and Terry is a suspect in legal terms. It wouldn't be allowed to happen anywhere else but football seems to be exempt from normality!

If I was Anton, I would not readily agree to shaking the B*stard's hand, but I would offer a personal assurance to officials that Anton would, during the course of the match, treat Terry in the same manner as he treated all the other Chelsea players. That must be right. We don't want brawls all over the pitch.
