Cheers for those recommendations skalpel <ok> I will add them to my lovefilm list ... actually i'll probably put all the ones I haven't seen on :)

Actually probably won't bother with Below. Don't really go in for horror films much so i'll give it a miss if he didn't direct it.

Natalie Portman is brilliant and got the Oscar for Black Swan but I thought Mila Kunis was just as good.
    It's great film Donkey Toon.

Cheers L-E :) I've heard generally good reviews for it and have had it on my lovefilm list for a while now actually. Problem is there are about 70 titles on the list so I haven't gotten to it yet. Think i'll have to promote it to highest priority <ok>

Darren Aronofsky did not direct The Fighter; David O. Russell did. <ok>

Love Darren Aronofsky though, seen Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain. Clint Mansell does awesome scores for his films as well.

Anyone seen David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo? Brilliant film, better than the other version, and Rooney Mara was much better than Noomi Rapace.

My mistake ... he only produced the Fighter didn't he <ok>

Will definitely catch Black Swan, Requiem and the others though that is a few recommendations now!

No haven't seen DF's version yet. Will be interesting to see actually because although i've stated that I don't like re-makes I wasn't impressed with the Swedish original of that, completely failed to build the suspense the way the book did. So it may actually break my rule of thumb (that re-makes are rarely if ever better than originals!).

Yes I agree with that, was really pissed when ****ing Hollywood felt the need to do a shot for shot remake of Let The Right One In. However seeing as like you I felt the original was not that great, it was David Fincher directing it, and also that is was not really a remake of the film but just another interpretation of the book (they had the rights for the film since 2005 which is before the other film came out, so it just took longer to get into production rather than a remake of the film), so thought it was worth seeing it and glad I did.

The producers/director said that they were influence by two 70's films when scripting it. The Wicker Man is pretty obvious, still not sure which film they are referring to re the hitman portion.

Yeah I was just using it as an example of a film that goes off on a tangent halfway through, changing genre effectively.

Just read some reviews of Snowtown, leading onto the wiki page on the murders. Stop reading the wiki because I don't want to spoil the suspense.

Looks very good, gonna get hold of a copy of that sharpish. Cheers for the recommendation <ok>

Snowtown put me in mind of The Horseman ... which is a recent low budget Australian revenge movie.

Received lots of good reviews but I wasn't that impressed ... wondered if anybody else has a take on it?

Yes Black Swan is reminiscent of Suspiria. Both are very good films. <ok>
