Agree with a lot of what this poster is saying. 1) in global terms Arsenal is considered a big club. 2) Arsenal has not won anything for many seasons. 3) Arsenal is not credibly challenging for the title. 4) Wenger has NOT addressed the obvious deficiencies like defense. It was and is his job to do that. If something important to your organisation's objectives is not working, would you not expect the manager to sort this promptly? Would you not say he was negligent if he/she didn't do anything? Is a football club any different? 5) Would any other decent manager not have achieved what Wenger is CURENTLY achieving with the team (I am not talking about his sucesses over the past 15 years) ? Is Wenger bringing anything special to the team or is the club sticking with him out of a sense of historical loyalty and gratitude for past glories? 6) Bearing in mnd the last 2-3 years, what would you lose by taking a new manager with the same football principles? like Brendan Rodgers. A change would be good for the players, the fans and the management. 7) a change at a big club that hasn't won anything for many years would not come as a big shock. This season threatens to be worse than last year's because Arsenal will not get into the champions league. In fact, managers staying for decades at a big club is not the rule. Most managers have a sell by date (Alex Ferguson is the exception that proves the rule) and it is obvious to most neutrals that Wenger has reached his.
Wenger will have to go at some stage, no doubt, but I think those calling for his head should be careful what they wish for. You make several good points. With the 4th or 5th highest wage bill, usually seen as the factor most indicative of league position, we are exactly where we should be right now. You say we are not competing right now, but in actual fact we are. For the first time in 13 years we are not in with a chance of winning the league at this stage, but we are in the CL and FA cup. Not sure your outrage at being exactly where we should be, is justified.
He's had 15 years and during the last seven, we have been also-rans. In these past twelve months he has shown an acute inability to reverse our fortunes so what makes you think he can actually get the job done? I assume that when you sad ' finish the job ', you were referring to a successful outcome. I'm sad to say this but I don't see an improvement in our club to the extent of getting us into the CL under the present style of management. I wonder if you do sincerely think Arsene can get us out of this and why you do think this is still possible. Yesterday's inexplicable tactical change sadly showed that Arsene has perhaps come to a crossroads. His defiant response to criticisms is worrying. I would have had more optimism had he just come out and said that he made a mistake but I can't see Arsene doing that. If anything he is likely to dig his heels in even more.
"I would have had more optimism had he just come out and said that he made a mistake" Would this be better for the players and the team though, or just for the fans? Is your feeling of optimism more important than getting good performances out of the team?
I think the team could see that it was a wrong decision so yes I see nothing wrong for Arsene to say he made a mistake and let's start afresh. Let's have players in their natural position. let's try RvP's suggestion of playing in a secondary role and using Walcott as a striker. Let's spend some....... money!!! We need change and under Arsene there won't be any. If he was willing to change his style and approach then we may have a chance of enjoying some success with him before his contract is up. With his intransigence I can see none of that happening. Can you see us ever being successful again under him? Really?
Get yourself onto the Celtic/Rangers boards and read some of the stuff on there. It's way more insane than GC.
I think we can be successful again, yes. I think a lot of things attributed to Wenger's style and approach are more due to the fact that our financial situation, or at least our financial policy. I would perhaps qualify that and say that I think Wenger is more likely to make us successful again than anyone else. I'm not sure that what you would consider success is possible for Arsenal at present.
Lets face it this is the key issue. I am now very suspicious of RVP. To me it looks like petrol. Maybe he doesn't like Wenger and he's an Arsene ist....................I'll get my coat For what its worth I think Wenger is one hell of a manager but he has handicapped his team in the last few years with his stubborness. A change might be good.
