To improve the matchday atmosphere? I think most agree it was poor v Swansea? Should we have singing areas in each stand, where like minded chanters can go. Do we need mascots placed around the ground to whip the atmosphere up before the game. I don't sing as much as I used to cos I rarely drink these days, maybe thats it? Any thoughts. Also we seem to have very few songs for players these days.

I know a lot of people hate them but I love drummers.

Peterborough game the other week, the drummer kept whipping them up.

Northumbria Police have probably banned drums mind.

I love the guy with the trumpet at the test matches, he gets them singing. That said would I want to sit inbetween a drummer and trumpet player........

It does annoy a lot of people as well though!

Probably the ones who don't sing at the match...

    Ahem.

Have a trumpet like the barmy army at the cricket.

Not like the england band though. they are awful.

Think a proper sunderland song would be good too. Bit like the mags have blaydon races. Dont think the lambton worm would cut it though

I think the last 11 months of 2011 has still got an effect on some people. Mon will have to turn this round in time as well.

Having said that, the atmosphere for the blackburn and man city games was electric. Sometimes you just get flat games.

The next home game will have a bit of crackle to it I bet.

    Drums and trumpets- yes.

    Popey style bell- no.

I like things with a bit of rhythm.

Can't stand anyone with a musical instrument. Football stadiums are not the place for them in my opinion. I don't watch England games these days but I hate that ****ing band!

    I agree Tony.

I live in Scotland and only get down for 5 or 6 a year, sitting all over the Stadium really. But on each occasion whenever the SW Corner gets singing, I stand and start joining in,.......... but look and feel a right plonker at being the only one that joins in !!!!!!!

Having a dedicated area for the chanters, with an additional area for non-season ticket holders alongside,... would be fantastic for the noise in the SoL, coz when we get going it is v. impressive indeed.

My brother went to an england international a few years back! After he sat down at his seat he increasingly wondered why there was an empty seat next to him as all of the seats around him were full! It wasnt until minutes before kick off he realised why when a trombone slide shot past his ear and had 'the great escape' at full blast!! The band you normally hear at england matches were right behind him and they had booked the 'empty seat' so that the trombone player had plenty of room for his slide! Haha!! Nightmare!!!

One can bring ones triangle if it helps.

Seriously I seem to be one of the minority here because I'm fine with how it is and the game itself sets the atmosphere to me.

Games like the City game saw us backs to the wall, a fight to the death thing and we got behind them in the fight, the goal saw lift off.

On Saturday it was a workman like day, effort and applcation, a slight nerve at first in case it went wrong then a calm day at the office with the goals. I felt the crowd joind in with the calm workman like atmosphere.

Not sure if I have explained that very well at all.

Well for all the gobbing off from Swansea fans I thought they were the most boring side I've seen for years at the SOL which bored the crowd to bits. Watched their game against Arsenal the week before and thought it was going to be a cracker.
Yes it was dead but to me it was more like a practice session than anything. It's an entertainment industry. It's up to the entertainment to excite the crowd first and foremost and Saturday was a dud. Except for the goals of course. Agreed, no frigging drums, trumpets or any **** like that..

I tend to agree with this. Eleven months habit isn't easy to shake off. It could be everyone is still half-expecting the bubble to burst. Maybe we're clapping with two hands but biting the nails on the other a bit. Why, summat like that.

Ok im old school Roker Park days Fullwell end full and never stopped singing. So why do all the chanters want to be in a corner.
they should be all be behind the home goal or the goal opposite and the away fans shoved in the corner. Having a designated seat does not help. I remember going in the Fullwell at around 2-00 and stand next to guys ive never met but after a good chant it would be ill see around here somewhere next week.
Im all for improving the atmosphere as it is great on away days.
If it takes a trumpet all well and being just don,t put it in the East stand where i am lol. Im also all for standing areas as well no away fans sit anyway whether it be Man U or us on away days

Safe standing works in germany. The atmosphere is electric overthere according to my german mate.

I was watching Schalke at the weekend ant the stand behind the goals where the standing is were literally buncing with people. especially when they scored.

The system they use can also be turned into seating when required (i.e. european nights)

I know why people are against it but the technology has moved on.
