We're actually not going to sign anyone this window, are we? It's seems mad really as just one really good striker would set us back on track and be just what we need when Suarez comes back too. It's not even like we've been linked to anyone. Apart from Jelavic
True - Suarez relies more on intelligence and quick feet to beat his man. But he can run with the ball at some pace and is relatively quick.
Well it wouldn't be 'genuine', but 'blistering' or something to that effect. Genuine suggests that there's a fake alternative - as if someone can run fast, but not actually be fast, which obviously doesn't make sense. I think Bale's got better acceleration, but I think Enrique would have him over 50-100m. David Amoo is probably quicker than both, just a shame he's a terrible footballer.
guys, i think honestly EGO is a bigger deal than pace or whatever type of pace yo want to discuss. Let me elaborate. Gareth bale is on record as saying he thinks coming in side make him now more effective. I'll translate that for you. the assets that made him, according to spurs or a paper, worth 150mil are no longer what he wants to go do... cos its not fancy enough. I have to say the more players get ego the less effective they become. I have to say i honestly see adam, downing, young, bale, nasri and a few others as egotists who have or are moving away form the type of game that suits their talent to a game they think they need to play to be compared to messi or ronaldo. honestly lets just forget about the one in 20 match goal bale just scored and say what he actually contributed to Tottenham yesterday... not much. Contrast to 6 months ago or 12 months ago when he'd run a guy and whip it in all day. The same can be said for downing who never tries to do anything but run cross field looking for an amazing killer ball or shot. Now contrast this to swansea city's wingers who have not got ego yet. they are far more effective. In my opinion if players park the ego they can be far better players.... not everyone can be messi, some guys are cut out to be wingers, some full backs, some central midfielder and some strikers. Why do they all want to then play "in the hole" and wander about? Ego.
Really insightful post.... Maybe that was what KK was talking about in his post-match commentary GKRK
I hope so. players who do the unfashionable or unseen actions are usually the guys missed most when absent. Alonso was not missed for his passing but his unslefless covering of others and energy that allowed the big egos up top to function. Lucas is the same. If valencia was not the best player on the ptich in the utd and arsenal game it was chamberlain. Both men stuck to their positions and tasks yet the MOTM goes to evra... go figure. Yet it'll be nani kept in and valencia dropped every time...
I always took as read (red?) that playing for the team rather than as a collection of fevered egos was a fundamental tenet of The Liverpool Way... GKRK
10.20 GMT: The Liverpool Echo reports that Liverpool have distanced themselves from reports suggesting they are leading the chase to sign Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic. Thank **** for that! ( I hope......)
gkrk is right, thats what kenny keeps saying. maybe i ntime we'll build that ethos and also play more direct attacking football... no not long ball, just direct run at the player, beat him type football.
I agree - ever since we've brought in the British players and in particular Andy Carroll, we play more direct and we've lost a bit of that quick passing and intelligence that we saw at the end of last season.
If we buy that streak of piss Jelavic I will be sick. If we are going to buy a striker form the Scottish league then we should go for Hooper from Celtic.
yet direct means long ball and 40 yard camera friendly passes today when i thought direct should mean fast paced running at players. Swansea to me play nice direct type of game.. we play a stodgy pass it laterally about type of game.
Width pace and drive.......worried about his similarities to Jovanovic though.... http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/media-watch/liverpool-determined-to-beat-chelsea-to-krasic-loan
